Will Armour of Twisted Measure

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Will Armour is a senior and has been a member of Twisted Measure for the past 4 years.

He started singing in school plays and committed himself to music in sophomore of high school when he chose music over football, and has never looked back.

Will was inspired to audition for Twisted Measure after he saw the group perform and was blown away. “I’m someone who just needs music in my life, so finding an outlet for that was one of the first things I did when I got to college,” he said.

Twisted Measure was formed in 1999 and was the first a cappella group on Elon’s campus. “We’re a co-ed group that prides itself on being a barefoot-singing family.  We all genuinely love making music and performing with each other and I think that’s infectious for audiences,” said Will.  TM practices three times a week and sings at various gigs around campus and the Elon community. During fall break, the group travels to sing at other schools around the country. The biggest performances are the Fall and Spring Concerts. Will said that these shows are “where we really get to show who we are.”

Will’s favorite memory was during Twisted Measure’s 10-year anniversary his sophomore year when about 30 alumni came out to see the current group’s concert. “It was so cool to hear all the stories of how TM got started and how it became what it is today,” said Will.  “And then performing in front of all of the people who created the group that has shaped me in so many ways was an unbelievable experience.”

Will’s advice for any aspiring singer would be that singing should be something that you do because you love it. “I sing because I love music and I love expressing myself through music, not because of it brings attention or compliments, and not because it makes me money,” said Will. He explained, “Committing to something can only be fulfilling if you’re making that commitment out of a genuine love for the thing itself.”
