Trendiest Sunglasses of the Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Spring: the season of day parties, brunching and breaks, but what’s the most important accessory for the greatest season of them all? A great pair of shades. Whether you’re walking to class on a Tuesday, a frat party on Saturday or going to Mimi’s for brunch on a Sunday—when you’ll definitely want the ray-blockers—there are shapes, sizes and colors for every occasion. However, finding the right shades for you can be overwhelming and expensive, so I’ve narrowed down my list of hundreds to a few favorites that are not only in this season, but are also universally flattering.

The Aviator

Let’s start with Aviators, the ultimate classic. However, there are some this season that just take them to another planet (in a fabulous way). Ray-Ban’s mirrored lenses have proven to be a sensation and they come in green, blue, pink, and gold. The classic with a twist. I also like their foldable aviators, which are perfect to slip into your purse when the sun sets. Similar to the Ray-Bans are Carrera’s purple/blue-mirrored shades that will look fabulous on any face and are a great alternative the the mirrored Ray-bans. Electric Vegus takes a new approach with their wide geometric lenses and Sole Society makes a pair that will make you look like a million bucks, but only set you back about 25.

Cat Eye

Another popular shape is the Cat Eye. Prada and Tom Ford (his “Nikita” and “Nastasya” styles are everything) make the most gorgeous and definitive Cat Eyes, but I found a pair from Kamali Kulture that are less than $100. Meow.

Round

The round shape takes any outfit to the next level. I think it makes you look cool, fun and willing to experiment with trends. House of Holland and Wildfox make this shape in an array of colors and styles (check out Wildfox’s “Twiggy” and “Bianca”) while Karen Walker’s “Super Duper Strength” shades are so durable and big, no matter how much you party on a Saturday you and your shades will still look fabulous. Illesteva also makes a pair that combines two hot topics: round frames with blue colored lenses (Illesteva “Round-Frame Acetate Sunlasses). Happy spring and happy shopping, Collegiettes!
