TGIFSS-Four New Members Reflect on Sweet Sigs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Although it’s only been a semester since they “found Sweet Signatures,” four of the seven newest members share what being in Sweet Sigs has meant to them and what they’re looking forward to over the next few years at Elon.

 Olivia Robin, 18

I have been singing all my life but decided that I wasn’t going to sing in college. My roommates and friends kept encouraging me to audition for some a cappella group, because I was singing all the time and probably driving them crazy! So when I found Sweet Signatures at the Organization air, I had to join! It means something special to be a part of a great organization. We are all very different. We have different styles, different interests, different friends, etc. but one thing you can find in common is, well, singing! It is so unique to know that I can be with a group of girls and just make music. It also means being a part of something bigger than yourself! Making music alone is fun but singing with sixteen other girls is so fulfilling. The harmonies, arrangements, and passions of music makes giving a lot of your time so worth it! In the next couple years I would like to see Sweet Signatures continue to succeed. To remain hard working, proactive, and just plain fun! I hope to see awesome arrangements because we have so many talented girls!

I’ve always loved to sing, and when I first saw the Sigs perform last year, I knew I wanted to join the group. The talent in the group is overwhelming in a good way! Every time we sing together it’s beautiful and I will never get tired of that.  I love seeing everyone improving and nailing their parts so the song comes together. I hope to work hard and perform at our best while making amazing friends and memories I will never forget.

Maddy McDaniel, 17

I’ve always loved to sing and was upset that I might not be able to continue singing in college. So joining Sweet Sigs is the way I was able to keep singing in my life. I expected I would have fun singing a few times a week, but what I did not expect were the amazing friendships and bonds I would form in the process. Every member of Sweet Sigs is an amazing, intelligent, talented woman that I am proud to call my friend. So far, Sigs is the highlight of my Elon experience, and in the future I hope to live up to the example set by the older Sigs and keep Sweet Signatures the amazing group that it is now.

Jacqueline Gravely, 19

I decided I wanted to join Sweet Signatures after seeing them perform live at Acapalooza when I toured Elon. They seemed to have a certain bond on and off stage and I really wanted to be a part of that commitment. Being in Sweet Signatures is almost like being in your own little sorority. There is a special “sisterhood” that takes place and carries on even after you graduate. I was ridiculously excited when I made the group because I love to sing and perform in front of people. Going into college, I had already set my sights on trying out for a cappella but knew how competitive it was. Over the next few years I want to really take the time to enjoy every moment I spend with the group.  Every practice and performance is a new experience and I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold!
