Tackle Tangent Eat Bar: Taco Rankings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

A few weeks ago, I came across an invitation to a Facebook event titled “Tangent Open Late.” The event was to come enjoy late night tacos and drinks at Tangent until 2 a.m. on Thursday, February 4th. Naturally, I immediately clicked “going” because lets face it- who does not love a good midnight snack?

For those who do not know, Tangent Eat Bar is a new restaurant located next to West End Terrace that specializes in tacos of all kinds, and multiple signature drinks (the Moscow Mule is my favorite.)

Fast forward a few days later, and I find myself standing in Tangent sometime around midnight staring at the beautifully drawn chalkboard menu, wanting to order one of everything. A lack of stomach space and funds prevented me from trying every taco on the menu that night, but it left me wondering – did I make the right decision in my taco selection?

I wanted answers, and I wanted them quickly. So thus, I decided to create a survey (shout out to Survey Monkey, the real MVP) that asked 100 Elon students to rank their favorite Tangent tacos. Here are my findings in regards to the top five:

In 1st place we have the chicken and waffle taco, which is described as a taco with hand breaded chicken strips, tangy maple slaw, bacon maple mayo and bacon crumbles on a flour tortilla. 36% of the 100 students surveyed claimed that this was #1 in their hearts.

In 2nd place, we have the fried green tomato taco, which is a taco with fried green tomatoes, corn salsa, queso fresco, cilantro sauce and fresh cilantro on a flour tortilla. 28% of survey respondents chose this as their #1 taco.

In 3rd place, we have my personal favorite, the spicy fried catfish taco. This taco has spicy fried catfish, black bean salsa, shredded cabbage, avocado and spicy honey mayo on a flour tortilla. This delicious taco was ranked #1 by 26% of the students.

Concluding this survey, we have our last two winners. 4th place goes to the “taco 101,” better known as Tangents “classic” taco. This taco is filled with grilled chicken, steak or shrimp, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, queso fresco and cilantro on a tortilla, ranked number one by 17% of students. Finally, the 5th spot goes to the roasted pork taco, with 7% of respondents claiming to like its slow roasted pork butt with tart apple salsa and cilantro on a tortilla the most.

There are many other tacos available at Tangent, and as a senior who is leaving I plan to try them all before I graduate. Happy eating :)
