Colorful blankets laid out across the quads, iced drinks at Starbucks, and a need to shave your
legs more than once a week- all signs that Summer is upon us. Leggings and large hoodies are no
longer suitable to trudge over to 8 a.m. classes in. As the spring season comes to a close and 80
degree days become more consistent, students on Elon’s campus must adjust to the ever
changing weather of North Carolina. Forget about the bulky sweaters and staple boots that you
wore everyday for Winter Term. It is time to put the money once used to Uber across campus in
30 degree weather, to a new wardrobe featuring the hottest warm weather trends for 2017. Here
is what to look out for this upcoming season:
1) Fun and Flirty Rompers
What’s better than a romper? It can look like a dress but you never have to worry about wind or
flashing anybody. They are fun and playful and can be either dressed up or down depending on
the occasion. Pair it with cute sandals or wedges and a cute bralette underneath. Or throw it over
a bathing suit, making it acceptable for the beach or grabbing lunch. Grab one with ruffles of
cutouts to really stand out.
2) Two Piece Outfits
Two piece outfits are the best way to dress up while staying cool. They are a great alternative to
dresses or skirts because they feature comfortable shorts. High neck lines and flowy shorts are in
like the ones featured above. Add to this outfit with some fun bracelets and colorful sandals.
3) Flare pants
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to pack away the pants. For a night on the town
or just a casual dinner, pair flare pants with a cute warm weather top and platform sandals or
wedges. Don’t forget your accessories: crossbody, layered necklaces, and of course your favorite
pair of sunnies.
4) Graphic One Piece Bathing Suits
Whether you want to rep your favorite food, motto, or hashtag, these graphic one piece suits are
on the rise and we can see why. Go for bright colored ones to enhance your tan and pair with a
cute pair of flip flops and your shades. Wear them during the day with a pair of shorts and it can
act like a tank. They’re comfy, cute, and totally unique.
These styles aren’t only tailored for the beach or vacation, but can be worn on campus or
on the weekends to barbeques and day parties. Wear a casual romper during the day and then
throw on your favorite pants and crochet top for dinner. These styles can be found online for
stores like Pacsun, Urban Outfitters, and Francesca’s. Bright and graphic swimsuits can be found
through Asos or Polyvore. Local shopping can also be more convenient so check out Simply Oak
boutique next to The Root on Elon’s campus or take a trip to Altar’d State at the Greensboro
Friendly Center Outdoor Mall.
