She Wore What? What Guys Really Think About What You’re Wearing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

It’s Thursday night, and it has been a long week. You’ve taken two tests this week, maybe turned in a paper too. Belk has basically been your home. Most of your meals have consisted of Lakeside’s Freshii food – which you are already sick of. Now you are looking to go out and maybe flirt a little.

When you turn to your closet, however, you realize you have nothing to wear (as usual).  If you are anything like me, you normally dress for girls. I like to take inspiration from the latest trends. Peplums, pastels, colored jeans and high-low skirts are all up my alley. But we can all agree that what girls like to wear and what guys like to see girls wear are two completely different things. So what should you wear when you are trying to impress a guy?

Here is what some men on Elon’s campus think of the latest spring trends:

Peplum tops:

Phil DiTullio (’15): I think these tops make girls look corny and old.

Tyler Boule (’15): Too conservative. Wouldn’t take more than one look.

Jp Saidnawey (’14): They’re cute. Nothing special though.

Colored Jeans:

DiTullio: Girls look very attractive in colored jeans, especially coral and teal jeans. And white, but only after Labor Day.

Boule: I think they make girls stand out.  I would think unique girls wear colored jeans.

Saidnawey: I like them.

Blazers:

DiTullio: Don’t wear them out. Save it for business casual.

Boule: Almost too business-y for girls to wear out, but if they can pull it off, I wouldn’t mind them.

Saidnawey: That’s weird. Okay for business, but not out at a party.

Black & White Color Schemes:

DiTullio: Black can be very sexy. White is more showy.

Boule: White reminds me of ceremonial stuff. Black is super sexy – very “look at me.”

Saidnawey: Black = sexy.

Sheer Shirts:

DiTullio: Trashy for the most part.

Boule: Could be sexy. Wearing just a bra underneath the these shirts would be trashy, though. I like them when they’re a part of the outfit in a decent manner – that’s when they’re cute.

Saidnawey: Sexy when they aren’t too showy.

Cut-outs:

DiTullio and Saidnawey both agree they are “scandalous” but they like the style.

According to these three gentlemen, guys may prefer classic looks, think black is sexy and prefer outfits that show some skin – but not too much. My advice? I would stay away from anything too structured or runway-esqe. But take their advice with a grain of salt – they are males after all. Wear what you’re comfortable in, and as long as you’re confident, you can make heads turn.
