Didn’t we all see it coming? I have to say I had a little more faith in Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries – I would have given them at least a year. Alas, their marriage was over after 72 days. Striking considering their engagement was 85 days and they had been dating for nearly 9 months.

I think this marriage faced what we can call the “Post-ABC’s-Bachelor effect.” After all of the hoopla and the honeymoon, Kim and Kris must have realized that for one, they don’t know each other very well and secondly, they don’t like each other as much as they thought.

Kim Kardashian’s entire life is a reality show. How could she have any sort of normal dating experience, never mind a normal marriage? In a statement to ABC, Kim said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever
but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.” I believe that she wanted to be married but I don’t believe that she worked hard to sort out the issues she had with Kris before she made her decision.

Some of the “irreconcilable differences” in their marriage have been said to be different ideas about over where to live. Additionally, it has been said that Kim was upset that he wasn’t accepting “Kardashian Brand” and that she was fed up with his mooching off of her and his partying during NBA lockout. It has been said that he was tired of her materialism.

Kris stated, “I love my wife and I am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I’m committed to this marriage… I am willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”

Kim Kardashian (or her people) managed her wedding as if it were a business. The rights to the wedding were sold for $18 million and the wedding photos were sold for $1 million. The cost of the wedding was $10 million total. She made a $9 million dollar profit. Additionally, Kim and Kris got 30 percent of the revenue from every commercial that aired during the wedding, which aired in about 50 countries. Not too shabby.

As someone who is so concerned with public image, I was surprised to hear that hours before divorce, Kim tweeted “#kardashainkhaos is opening tomorrow at 9am at @themiragelv we are so excited! Kardashain Khaos has arrived!” I think she needs a publicist who would have the right mind to tell her not to tweet about her business right before news of her divorce is filed.

This is not a story that hasn’t been told before. These types marriages will continue to capture our interest because they are so outrageous. We can only hope that the stars will do something philanthropic with the money that was made from these short marriages!
