Meet the Aca-Amazing Georgia Burnham-Lemaire!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Meet Georgia, the sophomore singing star who is taking the a capella world by storm. She has always had a passion for music and found her calling once she came to Elon. Anna Kendrick step aside, there’s a new aca-singer in town.

Hometown: Princeton, New Jersey

Majors: Psychology and Music in the Liberal Arts

What are you involved in at Elon?

A capella, I’m in the Shirley Tempos.

What is your administrative role in the group?

I am a co-music director of the group this semester, which basically means that me and the other music director run rehearsals, help guide learning music and set the basis for what we’ll do in each rehearsal. We do ques for every song, so we have to conduct and give notes and basically make sure that the sound of the group is where we want it to be.

What is your favorite part about having this position?

I love being able to run rehearsals. I’m a very organized person so I like being able to map out by time what we do in each rehearsal and what we can allow for.

How do you think having this position will help you in the future?

The position means I’m on the executive board of the group, so overall that becomes a leadership position within the group. I think it’s really good leadership experience for me and I think that any sort of executive role will improve you in the future and I hope that will help with future careers.

What is your favorite song that Shirley Tempos has performed?

Toxic by Britney Spears which we performed last year.

Do you have any favorite memories with your group?

Any time we do random gigs, just because they’re thrown together really quickly. It’s not super serious or stressful like a concert, it’s usually when we’re all able to just sing with each other and it’s just more laid back.

What is one a capella misconception that has been brought on by Pitch Perfect?

We don’t have rif-offs, there are no vocal battles between groups. There should be, but there aren’t.

Anything else you’d like to add?

The Shirley Tempo’s fall concert is going to be November 30, a Friday, in Whitley Auditorium at 7:30 pm and tickets will be sold in Moseley the week of!
