How to Make Your Living Space Feel More Like Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Whether you’re a first-year college student preparing for another year of on-campus living, an upperclassmen making the move to an off-campus apartment, or a senior who is about to graduate and move on your own for the first time, making your living space feel homey and comfortable is SO important. Here are some easy tips and tricks for your bedroom, living room, or any space you want to make feel a little more comfy and warm to relax in!

1. Succulents (or any plants) – Succulents have a ton of different benefits that have been noted over the years, some of which include increasing memory retention and concentration, assisted breathing, and an overall “zen” environment. Any type of plant will make the room feel way more homey and will give you a fresh outlook on your day.

2. Lights – Whether you buy hanging lights specialized for room decor or simply purchase a few sets of Christmas lights that you can drape over your window or headboard, lights totally change the ambiance of your room and make it way more comfy. Especially when overhead lighting is very harsh and uncomforting, it’s nice to be able to switch off your main light and turn on your fun, twinkly lights.

3. Candles – There is nothing better than being able to light a few of your favorite candles at the end of the day as a way to unwind and destress before bed. I love getting relaxing and calming scents such as lavender, vanilla, or jasmine. Places like TJ Maxx have tons of candles for reasonable prices that make it super easy to create a collection of your own.

4. Blanket Ladder – Cozy blankets and throw pillows are not only a practical way to make your bed more comfortable, but they also make the appearance of the room way more fun and homey. A nice way to store your blankets when you’re not using them is to buy a blanket ladder! They are sold in tons of places nowadays, and are an awesome way to organize while still displaying the coziness of your blankets.

Turning your room into a comfy space that makes you feel refreshed and relaxed is way simpler than you think and will TOTALLY transform the way you feel! Zen away!
