Everything Has Changed, But Shake it Off Because Long Live Taylor Swift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

“I don’t think five or so girls could hang out in a room together for a few hours without playing ‘All Too Well.’ It’s just bound to happen at some point. It just is.”

Hannah, you were right, I don’t think I could agree more.

My friends and I were hanging out in our dorm room when Taylor Swift started playing and I realized just how much I had missed her music.

I will never forget proudly wearing my brand new cowboy boots and blue sundress to my first Taylor Swift concert in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2008. I sang along to Love Story at the top of my lungs with thousands of other pre-teen girls in the stadium.

Taylor Swift’s music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. From her early country hits to her recent pop hits, I’ve been a diehard fan.

I’m sure you have heard people say things along the lines of “there’s a Taylor Swift song for every situation,” or “her songs satisfy every mood.” But it is true. She is relatable, but she is also timeless, and if you are like me, listening to her music can put you in a great mood no matter what is happening in your world. So I will leave you with five lyrics from her songs that I find to not only be my favorites, but the best of the best. These five lines from a variety of songs sum up why I believe Taylor Swift songs, old and new, should be in every girls Spotify playlist or iTunes library.

  1. “Don’t you worry your pretty little mind, people throw rocks at things that shine.” – Ours

  2. “Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end, but on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again”. – Begin Again

  3. “Bandaids don’t fix bullet holes.” – Bad Blood

  4. “I know you were on my side even when I was wrong, and I love you for giving me your eyes, staying back and watching me shine.” – Best Day

  5. “Rain came pouring down when I was drowning, that’s when I could finally breathe.” – Clean
