Cosmetics for Animal Lovers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

Did you know many highly successful and commonly used cosmetic brands use animal testing? If you’re an animal lover trying to avoid products that use animals to test their products, it may seem like there are not many options. Fortunately, there are several widely sold cosmetic companies that test their products without animals!

Here’s some of the companies that are safe for the animal lover’s skin:

Bare Escentuals

Bonne Bell

Burt’s Bees

E.L.F. Cosmetics

LUSH Cosmetics

Manic Panic

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

Physicians Formula

Tarte Cosmetics

The Body Shop

Too Faced Cosmetics

Urban Decay

Victoria’s Secret

wet n wild

You can find many of these products at the local CVS, Rite Aid, or Target.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require that companies use animals in testing cosmetics. According to their website, the FDA complies with law, regulations, and policies on animal testing such as the Animal Welfare Act and the Public Health Service Policy of Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Their website also states that the FDA advocates the use of alternatives to whole-animal testing.
