Ashley Braun, music director of the nationally recognized group Sweet Signatures (which is currently nominated for three CARA’s, including Best Female Album for 2011)

Ashley Braun, a sophomore from Orlando, Florida, has been on stage since she was 2 years old, and singing since she was 5. She had 8 years of voice lessons, and came to Elon University her senior of year of high school to audition for the music department as a Vocal Performance department. She got in, but by sophomore year, switched her major to Communications.

After seeing Sweet Signatures (the only all-female A cappella group on campus), perform at Freshmen Orientation, Ashley knew she wanted to be a part of it. She auditioned, and was one of three freshmen to be accepted into the group. She immediately stood out, and had her first solo her freshman year. In her current position as an executive member, Ashley is the first sophomore ever to be Music Director of the group. Since being appointed that position, she has arranged two songs for the group, which means she transposed the sounds from instruments to sounds from voices, a process that “can be hard because girls only have higher voices and can’t always create that lower tone.”

Any recommendations to those who want to get more involved on campus?
Go to the Org Fair, find people who share your same interests, and put your whole heart into it. It’s your last chance to be involved in a student organization, so be confident in whatever you enjoy.

Where can we go to watch Sweet Sigs perform?
Every year we have a fall concert and a spring concert. We also perform at Midnight Meals twice a year. We also perform at other colleges in North Carolina, including UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Greensboro.

Check out Ashley and all the Sweet Signatures on iTunes by searching for their album “Love Affair”—Ashley sings “Mama Who Bore Me”!

Avery is a sophomore at Elon University majoring in Print Journalism. She's involved with the yearbook, Phi Psi Cli, and the newspaper, The Pendulum, as well as a four year honors program called Leadership Fellows, and is also a member of Alpha Xi Delta, Theta Nu Chapter. Born and raised at the real Jersey Shore, she loves the beach, traveling, writing, running, and shopping. She recently studied abroad in Costa Rica for January Term, and hopes to go abroad for a semester in the fall of 2011. She hopes to move to Manhattan after she graduates and work for a women's magazine. Avery is excited to have the chance to bring Her Campus to Elon University.
