Let’s face it—most of us Elon collegiettes™ own more than 5 make-up items, whether we use them or not. However, when it comes time to head home for the weekend, or spend the night away from your dorm room or apartment, there are 5 essentials that a savvy Elon girl must take with her.

In Order of Importance:

1. Mascara

If I had to choose only one make-up item to use for the rest of my life, I would undoubtedly choose mascara. It enhances your eyes by thickening and lengthening your lashes, making a voluminous result. My favorite is “BADgal lash mascara” by Benefit.

2. Bronzer
Maybe it is just because I am extremely pale (especially in the winter,) but I never go out without some bronzer. No matter your skin tone, bronzer is definitely something that you should toss in your purse when you’re going out. It makes any girl’s face glow. My roommate and I both use NARS bronzing powder in Laguna.

3. Cover-up
When I was discussing make-up essentials with my roommates, Concealer was one of the first items that came up. If a nasty pimple pops up while you’re away for the weekend, you want to be able to cover that guy up ASAP. You can pick up any cover-up that matches your skin tone from Rite Aid or CVS.

4. Eyeliner
Too much eyeliner never looks good. However, when used correctly, eyeliner can bring out your eye color and make your eyes look bigger. Although it’s definitely a necessity for the nighttime, eyeliner is not necessary during the day. Remember, a little eyeliner goes a long way.

5. Blush
Blush is highly underrated. However, thanks to my mother (who always tells me I need more blush) I have grown to love it. Blush makes you look happy, healthy, fresh, and natural. I rated blush as number five because, if necessary, you can always just pinch your cheeks a little to get that pink look.

My favorite blush is Chanel’s Rose Petale, but you can also find a great blush at Rite Aid or CVS.

As mentioned before, most of us Elon girls have much more than five make up items. But if you’re ever stuck on what to purchase or what is considered an essential, it’s these five that make the list!
