3 Reasons Why Being Single on Valentine’s Day Isn’t So Bad

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

February 14th is the date that a lot of people without significant others dread. What I have come to realize throughout the past 18 years is that it really is not too bad being single on Valentine’s Day. Sure, if you don’t have a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day, you are constantly reminded of it by the ridiculous amount of cheesy Instagram posts and captions, but is it really the end of the world? Here are 3 reasons why you don’t have to fret over the thought-to-be dreaded day:

1)   You are not alone. At our age, there are tons of people who have SOs, but there are also so many people that don’t. If you hate Valentine’s Day for the pure reason that you don’t like to spend it alone, it is so easy to find other people to hangout with. Being with your friends and watching stupid movies like Valentine’s Day honestly sounds pretty good to me.

2)   Just because you’re single and don’t have a person to necessarily celebrate it with, doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate Valentine’s Day and what it has to offer. Valentine’s Day is a consumer’s dream holiday. The holiday is honestly just a perfect excuse to go to the nearest CVS and buy a ridiculous amount of heart shape candies and chocolates to stuff your face with; I mean who doesn’t like heart shaped Godiva truffles?

3)   Being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t too bad because everyone knows that even though they may be single on this Valentine’s Day, there will be one when you won’t be single.  It’s not like there is only one chance to celebrate the holiday with someone you love; it’ll come again next year, and a lot can happen in one year. This Valentine’s Day was not your only chance to celebrate it, so, don’t worry too much about missing out on the romantic festivities, everyone’s time will come!
