Destressing is Important During Finals Week, so Treat Yo Self!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elizabethtown chapter.

Finals week is horrible for many reasons, like having to study for hours straight, not having time to relax, being locked in exam rooms for hours, and general stress. At this point we just want break to come so we can get out of here and relax, but we gotta make it through this one week of hell first. And although it may be hard to find the time, but eating, sleeping, self care, and de-stressors are super important during finals week! I can’t tell you how to eat or sleep, and self care is self explanatory (take breaks, relax, don’t overwork yourself), but I there’s a great opportunity on board for you to get some de-stressors.

It’s On Us is a club at E-Town that runs events to raise awareness against sexual assault on college campuses, and every now and then the club varies their event types, from movies, to tabling, and games. An event the club runs a few times every year is called Treat Yo Self, and lucky for you this event is taking place Saturday December 8th!

Treat Yo Self, held at the Mosaic House, is an event for the students, specifically a de-stressing event. Students can come by and watch movies and eat popcorn and drink freshly-brewed tea, just cause. There will also be crafts to make your own winter and Christmas decorations, like snowflakes, reindeer, elves, and more. All materials are provided! If you’re not good at crafts, you could always color pictures.

This Treat Yo Self is different than all the other ones because this event will have cats! Multiple students at E-Town have ESA animals on campus, and a few of them will be bringing their cats down to the event to meet you! So if you want to pet a cat, give a cat treats, and be loved by a cat, you need to come to this event. The cats have assigned times they will be there, so watch out for who’s coming on It’s On Us’s Facebook page.

You see, there’s events all the time where dogs are invited to places on campus, including the BSC and the library. But there’s never any cats! It’s On Us decided that cat people didn’t need to live in vain, and now there’s an event for you to come play with some adorable kitties instead of jacking yourself up on caffeine and reading the same chapter for the fourth time.

You can bring down your textbooks and relax with us all day, or just come in for a short time to take a break from studying. The event is completely free, but It’s On Us will be collecting donations for a local Domestic Violence shelter if you have a few dollars to spare. There will also be any resources from the club about sexual assault awareness, bystander intervention, red flags, ways to get help for you or a loved one, and information about the club itself.

In the past Treat Yo Self events, It’s On Us raised tons of donations for the Lancaster YWCA by showing movies, working with Mary Kay who gave facials for students, and crafts like DIY sugar scrub and DIY stress balls. The events are always so much fun, and definitely worth going to.

So mark your calendars, Blue Jays! Saturday, December 8th starting at 11 AM and ending at 5 PM at the Mosaic House. Message itsonus@etown.edu for any questions!
