4 Reasons Why you need to Watch the Greatest Showman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elizabethtown chapter.

Hello ladies! So, I’m not sure if you’ve watched the Greatest Showman or not, but, if you haven’t, please watch it! You will not be disappointed. The theme, music, actors, dancing and quality of the film is sensational. I went to the theatres twice to see this movie and the second time I was literally moved to tears (in a good way of course!) Here are the reasons why I deem you should entice yourself to watch the Greatest Showman:

1. The Theme

Without giving away any key parts of the movie, it is safe to say that the theme of the movie is working together to create something incredible. The Barnum circus in the movie is built from the talents and love of the show cast. Their dedication to Barnum (Hugh Jackman) is so special. Barnum grew up dirt poor and was treated horribly because of this. Despite his traumatic and challenging childhood, he was able to become the pinnacle of success through his circus. The movie makes viewers realize the importance of believing in yourself and others and always standing up for what is right.

2. The Actors

The cast of the Greatest Showman is undeniably amazing! You have Hugh Jackman as the main character, P.T. Barnum, Zac Efron as his partner in business and the beautiful Zendaya from Disney! Not to mention, the gifted singer Keala Settle who does a tremendous job as the bearded lady. The cast makes the movie memorable with their array of talents.

3. The Music

In case someone neglected to share the musical magic of this movie, I can assure you that it is worth looking into! The most famous number is one sung by Keala Settle titled, “This is Me.” The meaning of the song is vital, believing in yourself and not allowing others to force you to conform to their standards. Throughout the movie, different characters face circumstances where they battle some variation of adversity. This song is probably the most popular since it aligns well with the theme of the movie. Even if you’ve never watched the movie, I’m certain you’ll find the lyrics captivating and rhythm pleasing.

In my opinion, all of the numbers are standouts. There was not a single one that I found boring, which is pretty awesome! The other one that I loved was the number featuring the singing and dancing talents of Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. For all you high school musical lovers, it is such a reminscient number! Who doesn’t like an upbeat performance with two talented handsome male actors?

4. The Story

I love the storyline. It is heartfelt, entertaining and moving. There is a nice balance of drama, familial connections, romance, singing dancing and a bit of intensity to make this movie appealing to a variety of audience members. The overall storyline is motivating because of Barnum’s hard work and imagination. It is interesting how in the beginning of the film, Barnum is a child with big aspirations and hope for the future. It’s neat how the production team created this connection to his childhood so that the viewers could better understand his background. Later in the film, this comprehension of his past helps the viewers better grasp some of the choices he makes. The movie certainly goes full circle with an exciting beginning and end. Plus the entire storyline in the middle is equally fabulous. Here’s to the Greatest Showman, check it out!

If you’ve already watched the movie and fallen in love with it like I have, watch it again! I can guarantee you’ll have a better appreciation for it. Just as an FYI, I would categorize this movie as family-friendly, so if you’re babysitting or in need of a family film, I would recommend this movie. You can watch it with your girl pals, or your significant other. The message of the movie is definitely worth sharing, especially through the excitement of the movie!

Have a great week! XXX. Brianna
