1. A Nerd
Pair together a button-down shirt, suspenders, converse and thick-rimmed glasses for a nerd costume. And, oh yeah, carry around that one textbook you never use to get your money’s worth out of it.
2. Minnie or Mickey Mouse
Cheap mouse ears go a long way. Pair them with a red polka dot outfit or just Mickey’s black shirt and red pants.
3. A Cat
It is the most common costume ever, but for good reason. Some cat ears and an all-black outfit, and presto! You’re done.
4. Athlete
Any baseball tee or football jersey will do for this one. Carry around props like a ball or mitt as well. This one’s easy because you probably don’t have to buy anything.
5. A Burglar
Not that common but extremely easy. Wear black and white striped clothes, a black mask or hat and carry around a pillowcase with a dollar sign drawn on it.
6. A Hippie
Any flowy, patterned pants will do. Pair with a tye-dye shirt and some flip flops or sandals. Feel free to carry around flowers, wear circular glasses and make a peace sign for every picture.
7. An Alien
There’s no wrong way to do this one. Wear neon green, do crazy makeup, build antennas with a headband. Just be creative with it!
8. Hula Girl
All you need is a grass skirt and a lei around your neck. Accessorize with sunglasses, flip flops or anything else you can think of.
9. Scarecrow
Use makeup to draw stitches across your smile line. Wear a plaid shirt, and feel free to top it off with a hat, preferably one made of straw.
10. Rosie the Riveter
Denim shirt, denim jeans, red lipstick and red bandana. An icon that’s easier to do than any celebrity, and make sure to pose accordingly for pictures!
11. Pop Art Character
This one relies solely on makeup. Draw black outlines across your body, and cover parts of your body with polka dots, usually red or white. Make sure to outline your brows, lips and other facial features like your contour line with black.
12. 80s Girl
Break out the leg warmers, headbands and neon colors! Wear a leotard over some leggings and have the attitude of a raving 80s chick. Remember to pile on the hairspray!
13. Pinup Girl
Wear any circular or pencil skirt, preferably longer than the knee. Hair can be done in victory rolls, or you can just wear a sailor hat. Accessorize as you wish, with heels or a flower in your hair, but red lipstick is a must.
14. Statue of Liberty
Any one-shouldered green or blue dress would work, but you can also make do with a sheet or blanket draped over you. DIY a torch by gluing paper together as a funnel with orange on the top, and carry around a book in your other arm. The crown can also be made by gluing paper to a headband.
15. Baby
This costume is perfect because it consists of wearing pajamas in public. Work any onesies or pj’s that you love, slippers and all. Carry around a stuffed animal, pillow or pacifier.
16. Vampire
Being a vampire for halloween is often overlooked because of how popular it is, but it’s the perfect thing for anyone with no time or creativity. Wear all black, maybe a cape, and leave two red marks on your neck. Stick some fake fangs in your mouth and you’re done. Feel free to change it up by making it more classic with red robes and pale skin, or more comedic with a cup of punch with “BLOOD” written over the label.
17. Swimmer
By far one of the easiest, because you don’t have to buy anything! Wear a bathing suit and flip flops. Carry a towel to keep warm, but also make sure to have pool toys, goggles and sunglasses.
18. Zombie
Make use of those clothes you have but never wear. Cut holes in them and smear some powder makeup so they’re dirty. Use makeup to make your skin pale, and deepen crevices of your face with heavy contouring using a dark color. The use of fake blood is also appropriate.
19. Regular T-shirt
Yep, just any shirt you have. Take a marker and write “this is my costume” on it. They even sell the exact same printed shirt at stores if you don’t want to ruin a shirt.
20. Ghost
Literally just put a sheet on your head with eye cut-outs to see. It’s a classic!
