Autumn, a.k.a Fall is the time of year when the weather cools, and harvest begins. The harvest season results in lots of fruit and vegetables for people to enjoy. Also, the fall season results in fiery colored leaves and flowers. All this aesthetic is nice to look at, but what is there to do during Fall? This week I’m going to explain 10 things to do during Fall! Additionally, I interviewed 30 people in my dorm on which activity they are most likely do.

1. Apple Picking

Orchards and farms very commonly open to the public during fall, and when they open, the people can pay to take a hayride and pick apples. The price of apple picking can depend on the farm or orchard but most of the time the price is by the pound of apples you pick, plus the price of the hayride. A simple Google search can tell you where the closest orchard or farm is, and find the price range from there. The cooling weather and the harvest work together and make apple picking a perfect activity for fall. 27% of the people in my dorm chose apple picking, making it the majority but only by a little.

2. Corn Maze

Just like the orchards, some farms will specifically open for the Fall by turning their corn crops into a maze. A corn maze can be spooky or just be a fun maze, but both are a fun activity for the Fall season. Since Fall is known as the spooky time of year due to Halloween, a scary corn maze could be better suited for Fall. Though a regular corn maze is still a good option for those who are feign of heart. 20% of the people in my dorm chose corn mazes, making it a runner up to the majority.

3. Make Pinecone Bird Feeders

Though this activity is presented like it’s for children, making pinecone bird feeders is fun, will attract, and feed a few more animals than just birds. This activity uses ingredients that most people already have, can be found, or cost very little. The simplest versions are just a pinecone with peanut butter on it and rolled in seeds. Such a simple activity can be very fun and bring critters around to any yard. 0% of the people in my dorm chose to make pinecone bird feeders but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable for other people.

4. Carve Pumpkins

Carving pumpkins is more of a Halloween tradition, but the choice of when to carve them can happen anytime during fall. Jack-o-Lanterns also make very good decorations for the Fall, and for Halloween. Just like apples, pumpkins are sold by their size so their prices have a very wide range. Carving pumpkins can feel like a creative release and bring you closer with whoever you’re carving with. Above all, it’s fun to just let loose and make a mess. 10% of people in my dorm chose carve pumpkins, it’s third from last but still can be enjoyable for you.

5. Read Outside

“I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book” – J.K. Rowling Reading is already a very calming activity. It can bring your mind to a magical place and really center everything around you. That added to the crisp air of fall can be a wonderful feeling when you really need a breather. Everyone has something they could enjoy reading while sitting outside, surrounded by the cool air and colorful leaves can make the process even more enjoyable. 0% of the people in my dorm chose reading outside but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable for other people.

6. Bake Fall Treats

One of the many smells of fall is the baking of pies, tarts and other sweet treats. Many fall treats are made with sweet smelling ingredients, like pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon. Baking with such nice smells can make a day feel peaceful and in the end, you can eat the sweet outcome. Since Fall means harvesting the best fruit and vegetables are being picked. This allows for the freshest and in season ingredients to go into whatever you decide to bake. So whatever you bake will taste the best. 17% of the people in my dorm chose baking fall treats, which makes it one of the middle numbers.

7. Drink Apple Cider

Apple cider is a crisp drink similar to apple juice. The difference between the two is that apple cider is unfiltered when the apples are crushed, causing a crisper taste. Some companies have no difference between their apple cider and their juice, but some companies do the cider process. Spiced apple cider is also a good fall tradition because there is added cinnamon and nutmeg that gives a fall scent and taste. For those who are a little older, there is hard cider which has about a 4-6% alcohol on average. Apple cider gives a little taste all fall to people of all ages. 7% of people in my dorm chose drinking apple cider which makes it one of the two lowest, but still other people can enjoy it.

8. Make a Bonfire

Bonfires are always a great way to end a chilly fall night. Most bonfires can be accompanied with s’mores and friends. The fire also is warm and matches the color of the changing leaves. Fall is also a good time to find firewood because all the trees are drying out. 13% of people in my dorm chose making a bonfire which makes it the third-lowest, that can’t stop people from liking it though.

9. Go For a Hike

The best way to enjoy the crisp air and the colorful scenery is to be out in it. A little exploration and fresh air during Fall is a perfect way to connect with nature. Just like reading it can help clear your mind if you go out onto a trail and have a nice hike. The cool air and light breeze are really good for calming life. 0% of the people in my dorm chose to make going for a hike but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable for other people.

10. Make Halloween Costumes

Halloween is a fun holiday all on its own and one of the fun parts is dressing up. People can spend lots of money to buy pre-made costumes but it’s a lot better to make your own. Making your own costume can make you feel more comfortable and get you more excited about Halloween. Plus making costumes with friends can make them feel more connected. 6% of people in my dorm chose making Halloween costumes which makes it one of the two lowest, but still, other people can enjoy it.
