If you had asked me a year ago if I was going to join a sorority, I would have laughed in your face and then proceeded to tell you that I wasn’t “that kind of girl”. Fast forward to now, I am in a wonderful sorority that I could not be more proud of. I am a proud member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, the Omega Pi chapter of ECU. We are a service sorority that serves St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. I have about 15 t shirts already, and half of my Christmas list was other ESA regalia.

The transition into college is already hard enough and putting this on top of my already busy schedule seemed like a lot at first, and now I can’t imagine not having it only a semester in. So much of the general knowledge you need to survive college I have learned from my sisters, as well as how to manage my time. I know if I want to go to the sister bonding that night that I better have all my homework done before hand, and that truly helps me buckle down and get my stuff done instead of doing a problem and going on my phone for 15 minutes.

The girls I have met there I already consider some of my closest friends, closer than those I spent 15 years with at my dance studio and 7 years with through middle and high school. My big is like an older clone of me and I love her to death, and I would drop everything to help her. I feel like I am part of a group of loving, motivated, strong women who actually help a community I am going to college to help. I have had girls who didn’t even know who I was giving me rides around campus, helping me get groceries, getting lunch with me just so I’m not alone. Heck, I’m living with 3 of them next year.  It’s something you’ll never understand from the outside, and can’t explain from the inside.

If you are thinking about looking into sorority life even in the slightest bit, I highly recommend it!! Joining a group of girls who all support you unconditionally is going to provide you with such a great backbone throughout college. Plus the shirts are all really cute ;)

Just goes to show, don’t knock it before you try it. It could be the best decision you’ve ever made.

Hi! I'm Rachel, a freshman intended nursing major at ECU! Am I the most elequent speaker? Not really. Do I have my life together at all times? Aboslutely not. But in my 18 years on this planet, I have figured out a couple things. Hopefully I can make your day a little bit brighter after reading my stuff!
