Volunteering For Stress Relief

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Finals are here and that comes with a lot of stress. Different people find different ways to manage stress. It could be watching Netflix, sleeping or even stress baking (it’s a thing.) However, many people don’t think to go out and volunteer during finals week. There may only be an hour block of free time in your day, but that can still be time to spend with causes that need you. Service is one of the pillars of ECU so why not give back?

Here are a few great places to volunteer in Greenville:

If you like working with children and elders, Lucille W. Gorham Intergenerational Community Center (IGCC) is a great place to interact with the youth of Greenville. It’s located at 1100 Ward St, Greenville, NC 27834. To apply to volunteer visit OrgSync. If you like working with animals try volunteering at the Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina.

If you’re allergic to cats then you can choose to volunteer with just dogs and vice versa. The Humane Society is located 3520 Tupper Dr. Greenville, NC 27834. This is a fun way to play with animals that are waiting for adoption and relieve stress.

Operation Sunshine in a wonderful place where they help young girls in the Pitt County area with self-esteem, homework, and life skills. They are located on 1328 Chestnut St, Greenville, NC 27834. Volunteers are always welcome.

Those are only a few suggestions, but there are so many places to give back in Greenville. ECU’s Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement is also a great way to keep up with the endess oppurtunities in our community. You can connect with them on OrgSync. The best thing about volunteering is that it can lift your mood, while helping someone other than yourself.
