It’s that time of year again. The bees are buzzing, the birds are chirping and the temperature is just right. Spring time is finally here. It is everyone’s favorite time of the year until IT begins. POLLEN SEASON… The trees, flowers, and plants releasing pollen into the air. It is inescapable and if you have allergies you are running indoors and grabbing the closest bottle of allergy medicine. Down in the South, you will hear the saying, “It doesn’t snow in the south, it pollens.” I am here today with the list of items every pollen victim needs to survive the season.

  • Antihistamines

I am no doctor, but I know when I need allergy medicine. It is super easy to get it over the counter. Talk to your local pharmacist to get the best recommendation for you. I have found that Allegra and Claritin work best for me, but it varies from person to person. Benadryl is a must when you are struggling to go to sleep from your allergies. If your allergies are bad enough you might need to get an allergy prescription. Hopefully, you’re not in that predicament because that means you must be really miserable.

  • Tissues

With all this pollen comes stuffed sinuses and itchy runny watery eyes. If you have dealt with allergies you have experienced someone ask you, “Are you okay?!” And all you can say is, “I’m fine, it’s my allergies.” Having tissues is a must! I have found that Puffs Plus Lotion tissues are a lifesaver. Goodbye sore pink nose! It is also helpful for when your eyes are watering, if it’s bad you might as well give up on wearing any makeup until it’s over. Unless you prefer the raccoon look, or you could just use waterproof eyeliner and mascara. Whatever floats your boat.

  • Cough Drops

Sometimes when dealing with pollen it messes with your sinuses and the dreaded drainage happens. It can feel exactly like strep throat, so getting the best throat lozenges (cough drops) can be super helpful. We all know Halls and Ricola are trusted brands, but I found the holy grail of all cough drops. Smith Bros cough drops are the best cough drops I have come across and they help my throat feel like a million bucks! They have a limited amount of flavors, honey and apple pie. The apple pie is so good and works wonders on my throat. Cough drops to the rescue!

  • Eye Drops

The pollen can be killer on the eyes. Some students walk around and you can’t tell if it’s the pollen or if they are stoned. Maybe both? Eye drops can be a lifesaver on your itchy dry eyes from the pollen. I would recommend Visine’s Allergy Relieve eye drops. Trust me, you will be thanking me later.

  • Tea

Along with the cough drops a nice cup of tea can be just what you need to help boost your energy and help your throat all at the same time! You can channel your inner Anastasia Steele and have a cup of Twining’s English Breakfast Tea or channel your inner Mad Hatter for a cup of tea and treat yourself with something sweet.

Pollen Season is every allergy sufferer’s worst nightmare, but with the right supplies you can be in control.
