Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme — more Mamma Mia! In 2008, everyone put on their dancing shoes and were ready to have the time of their lives when Mamma Mia! first hit theaters. Ten years later it is time to dust off those shoes for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The first trailer for the anticipated film debuted on Dec. 21 of last year and here is what we can expect from the film so far:

A pregnant Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who calls on the help of her mother’s friends and former bandmates Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters) to help her through her fear of going through pregnancy alone.

“Your mother was the bravest person we ever knew,” says Rosie. “Let me tell you how she did it, all on her own.” Which leads us to believe that Donna (Meryl Streep) has passed and the only time we will be seeing Donna is in backflashes or possibly if her passing is explained. However, time will tell if our assumption is correct.

While the Donna we are used to may be missing from the screen it seems we will be seeing a lot of young Donna (Lily James) and her journey.

We can also expect to see a reappearance of Harry (Colin Firth), Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) and Sam (Pierce Brosnan). Their younger selves will also be featured in the film.

We can even expect Cher in a scene playing Sophie’s grandmother.

In true Mamma Mia! fashion we can expect singing, dancing and ABBA classics.

The film is set to release this coming July.
