A double major in International Business and Communications with a minor in Spanish, Woody Taylor does it all at Eckerd College. He is the R.A. of Gamma Wilson, the point guard for the men’s basketball team, DJ Woody at campus events, a member of the Eckerd College Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and a friendly face on campus. Often known as the “go to guy” on campus, get to know him (if you don’t already) by reading why we’ve chosen him as this week’s Campus Celebrity!

How do you manage your time being an R.A., a Division II basketball player, a student, and a prominent member and leader of clubs on campus?
I try to always put aside at least fifteen minutes a day to devote to my residents. I may not get to talk to all of them everyday, but connecting with some of them on a regular basis gives me the opportunity to connect with all of them in due time. I also try to do my work in the mornings so that my afternoons I can relax and go to the gym and get up extra shots.

When did you become involved in the Afro American society?
I got a letter in my mailbox as a freshman from Dean Lena Wilfalk to come to the Afro American Society meeting. And our first meeting started with a great, soulful meal and I will never forget that.
What was your favorite event that AAS has ever done?
The President of the AAS, Daria Hall, called me and asked if I was interested in opening up for Coach Boone who’s story is portrayed in the movie “Remember the Titans”. I felt really privileged to announce such a prestigious person and nervous at the same time because I didn’t want to mess up. I see everybody all the time, I’m always talking to them, performing in front of them on the court, but this was my first time giving a serious speech in front of my peers and although I was nervous, I was honored to do it. Before and after his speech Coach Boone told many stories that weren’t in the movie. I liked his use of comic relief. It was a good method of bringing up the serious issue of racial divide.
What do you enjoy most about being an Eckerd College Triton?
Well I guess from my freshmen year to now seeing how much the program has grown; both on the court and fan support. That makes me proud to be a Triton and want to play for Eckerd. I definitely play for my team, but by the students supporting us, it gives us that true community feeling that every college strives for. Shout out to my man Turner and the Triton Tribe.
Â
Where’s your favorite place to be on campus?
In the locker room with my teammates. The bond that we’ve formed makes it feel like a brotherhood and it’s the closest thing we have to a fraternity at Eckerd.

If you could be stranded on an aquaglide in Frenchman’s creek with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Stranded forever? It would have to be Kim Kardashian, because she would have no choice but to like me because I’d be the only man there.
