What to Eat Down in St. Pete!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Eckerd chapter.

Looking for a new restaurant to check out? Her Campus Eckerd completely understands! I’m pretty sure it’s one of the constant states of college students to be in search of good food. So the next time you’re not feeling up to the caf or pub, you should venture to the Lucky Dill Deli, the New York Style deli off of Central and Third.

My first time at the Lucky Dill Deli was actually after my tour of Eckerd College. My parents and I arrived there just before closing after a long day of travelling and touring. The staff was incredibly friendly, they talked with us about places to see in St. Pete before we left. I usually have a hard time at delis, I am a somewhat picky eater with sandwiches, I don’t care for mustard or pickles or other things most people want on their sandwiches but I always feel bad asking for it off. The servers were perfectly accommodating with what I wanted and didn’t mind at all that I had extremely simplified a classic.

I have been to the deli several times since and I have never had a bad visit. The energy is great, it has the atmosphere of a mini New York inside. My recommendation? The pastrami. This is one deli that really does it right. It’s piled high on your choice of bread and always fresh. Also be sure to check out their selection of Reuben and Cuban sandwiches. If you’re not the New York deli type, don’t write this place off! They have a selection of burgers, grilled chicken, salads, wraps and more! Their servings are pretty big, which is great for leftovers. While it can get pretty crowded (a good sign for any restaurant), the staff is friendly and the food is worth the wait. It’s in a fantastic location and not too pricey.
