Sarah Cannady: Eckerd’s Disney Expert

Year: Senior

Age: 21

Major: Literature

Minor: Human Development

Hometown: Atlanta, GA

This week’s campus celebrity is Sarah Cannady, a current senior who is involved in an eclectic mixture of clubs here at Eckerd. She is the President of the Disney Club and head of the Student Community Standards Board. Sarah said she does not necessarily have one favorite moment from her time at Eckerd. She has enjoyed the general college life and loves just being in Eckerd’s atmosphere. She loves the Eckerd community and says that this is the part she will miss the most after she graduates. Sarah loves that the Eckerd community includes not only students but also faculty and staff in events. After she graduates, Sarah plans on obtaining her Masters in teaching and hopes to teach either Kindergarten or high school English.  She has yet to decide.

Sarah joined the Disney club her freshman year because she has always been a Disney lover and wanted to meet other Disney lovers. As president of the Disney club Sarah is in charge of planning and organizing club events. Sarah was very excited to share her love of Disney with me; she is obsessed with Peter Pan (as you may be able to tell from her picture). Her favorite Disney movie is “The Little Mermaid” because she has always wanted to be a mermaid and loves Prince Eric. She also admires Princess Belle because she is a bookworm just like Sarah! Her favorite ride at Disneyworld (she prefers Disneyworld to Disneyland) is Pirates of the Caribbean because she enjoys feeling like she is about to embark upon a swashbuckling adventure. According to Eckerd’s own Disney expert the best time to visit Disney is in February or late September; she says not to even consider going over the summer or during the holidays. The park is too packed!

In addition to joining the Disney Club, Sarah became involved with Eckerd’s Student Community Standards Board. She was interested in on-campus jobs and came across SCBS. She really likes that Eckerd allows the students “to have a board of peers to look at policy violations from the perspective of a student.” Sarah believes that as students living together, it is very important that we all recognize how our actions affect one another. As head of SCSB, Sarah is in charge of the other board members, as well as the hearings. She reads the different reports and speaks with students but she is not a part of the voting process to determine the responsibility of the student. Sarah simply ensures that sanctions are fair. All of her involvement on campus keeps Sarah very busy but she is happy to contribute to the Eckerd community.
