Packing up and Moving Out

Packing up and Moving Out

It’s that time of year again to pack up the dorm rooms and head back home or go off on some amazing new adventures. Even though it is hell week, packing is very important if you didn’t plan your flight right. For those of you who need help, I have a few tips to make this week and the next as easy as possible.

  • First get those boxes! Don’t know where to get them? Go to a storage place or better yet look in the recycling bin at peoples packaging boxes. Get some tape form the book store and you’ve got boxes.
  • Second if you’re having a hard time finding time, here’s a great tip, use that time as your study break! Pack up the things you don’t need every day or know you won’t use again the rest of the semester.
  • Worrying about your clothes? Have too much and don’t know how to pack it all up in your suitcase? Either roll it up or lay it flat in your suit case and boxes. Just put clothes in there, and small knickknacks you can easily squeeze in there.
  • Don’t know where to store your stuff? Look around at local storage units that are air conditioned. You want an air-conditioned unit for a couple of very important reasons. Those that are not air conditioned tend to get rats or bugs, mold is more likely to grow if you accidently leave things in your boxes, and they can be better protected during storms that may occur over the summer. We do also get the pods on campus that you can still order that will make it easier for you to move stuff into if you do not have a vehicle.
  • Don’t pack your food into your storage units or any liquids! They may leak onto things, get bugs, mold, or break electrical things. Quick tip: take your ink cartridges out of your printer so they won’t leak or crust your printer. You’ll also be able to save your cartridges for next year to reuse them.
  • Traveling back home but don’t know what to bring and what to leave behind? Bring home your necessities that you know you don’t have at home. For clothes bring home your shorts, tanks, and t-shirts, and do not bring home your winter clothes. That’ll take up space and is not needed to have in your luggage. This will help you have lighter baggage as well on the plan.
  • Have things you don t want and/or need you can sell them on the Facebook page called Free and For Sell, or you can put it outside your dorm on the blue tarps that get placed there. Anything placed there will be given to the new students next year that need them, but if you see something you like grab it.

Hopefully these tips will get you through these next two weeks and that your finals go really well! Good luck and have a wonderful summer!
