Fall is always an exciting season for fashion.  The temperature is cooling off so there are more fabrics and accessories to work with, the school year just began so we can strut all of our new outfits around campus and, of course, we can’t forget New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks happen in the fall!
New, exciting trends are developing and being revealed all over the world, but lets not kid ourselves; a lot of the new styles coming out are meant to be warn in colder weather…something us
collegiettes™ don’t get much of in Florida.  So how can we dress to impress and wear the latest fall trends down here?  Well, here are a few helpful pointers to update your fall wardrobe. Florida-style.

We all know each season requires a different color scheme.  Bright colors are huge in the summer, where as spring calls for more pastel shades.  Fall is all about jewel tones.  Think ruby red, royal purple, pumpkin orange or emerald green.  These colors aren’t too dark like something you maysee in the winter, but still pack enough punch to make a gorgeous fashion statement.  Look for jeweled color dresses, tanks, accessories or even skinny jeans this fall!

We can’t forget about prints.  Of course, animal print is everywhere.  You can never go wrong with a cute leopard print hip-hugging dress.  Specific patterns seen on the fall runways at New York’s fashion week include plaid (think Scottish kilts), polka dots and lots of 60’s-inspired patterns.  Another huge trend on the rise: Victorian age-inspired looks.  This trend requires material that looks rather old and ruffled with lots of pleated sections.

Before you head to the mall to revamp your entire wardrobe, there are some simple pieces you can pick up at an affordable price that will do your fall fashion sense justice.

*A long-sleeved mini dresses.  They’re perfect for a night out, but in warmer temperatures.

*Leather pants/shorts.  They’re a huge trend for the fall, but Florida may call for shorts instead of pants.  Pair        with a sultry top and eyes will be on you.  Leather can be expensive, so if need be, look for “waxed denim”.          They’re jeans that look like leather at a lesser cost.

*Metallic sheen. If you want to make a statement this fall, find an article of clothing that screams metallic silver, gold, or bronze.  Pair with lighter accessories so you don’t go overboard.

*Short suit:  Forget about heavy business suits in these temperatures.  Stylish suits made with shorts instead of pants are in this fall.  Fit a basic boyfriend tee with a lightweight jacket and matching pair of shorts and you’ll feel on the run way in no time.

Some girls have all the fun; Devon Elizabeth Williams happens to be one of them. A carb loving, liberal hailing from Lakeville, Massachusetts, Devon is a senior at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg, Florida pursuing a  major in Political Science with a double minor in Journalism and International Relations. After spending January 2011 in an intensive Winter Term program at the United Nations in New York, Devon realized that taking over the world will be more difficult than anticipated, but nothing that a vivacious red head in stilettos can’t handle. In her free time Devon is a bartending beauty queen who has a soft spot for blueberry pie, Broadway and the scheming antics of Blair Waldorf. When she’s not paddle boarding at the waterfront or laying out on Eckerd’s private South Beach you can find Devon singing in the alto section of the concert choir. At the end of the day Devon is thankful for Newport, RI, her family, Sadie the black lab, Paul Mitchell, her girlfriends, Cheetah, and rhinestones.
