Craft Corner: How to Make Hairpins from Simple Materials!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Eckerd chapter.

Buttons!

If you like hair accessories AND if you like buttons…then I have the perfect thing for you.  This week I have made bobby pins that can add some flair to your hairstyle; and I can teach you how to make them!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Bobby Pins

Buttons

Nail Polish

Super Glue

Index Cards

Ok so what you want to start off with is figuring out what buttons you would want to use.  Once you have that decided you can then match some nail polish to go with your buttons; or vice versa depending on what you want to do.  Then you want to place your bobby pins on an index card–make sure they are all either ridge side down or ridge side up.

Now if you didn’t know placing a bobby pin ridge side down and flat side up in your hair is actually the best way to put a bobby pin in your hair, plus it stays in better too! So I painted all of the flat sides on my bobby pins.  Then I waited for the polish to dry (I love painting my nails, but I dislike having to wait for the polish to dry!).  Once the polish was dry, I then super glued the buttons onto the end of the bobby pin (where the fold is).  I let them sit overnight before I did anything with them to make sure that they were completely dry.

And there you have it! Cute little button bobby pin hair accessories!
