Last night Durham University took on Oxford’s own Brasenose College and won in a landslide victory. Durham obtained a grand total of 250 points against Brasenose’s 35, a score the host Jeremy Paxman could only describe as ‘terrific’. Brasenose, Prime Minister David Cameron’s old College, appeared sheepishat  at the close of the show.
Durham will now go through to the second round whilst Brasenose are left to contemplate their defeat. Durham has won University Challenge only twice before, in 1977 and 2000.
This win comes at the beginning of term here at Durham and is, what we hope to be, a great indicator of the year to come! Well done Durham and good luck! Let’s hope this has convinced all freshers who didn’t make it into Oxbridge’s elite that they’ve actually ended up at the far superior University!
