The Best Easter Eggs of 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Durham chapter.

Easter: a time for reflection, a little rest break from studies before the frantic cramming revision begins, and, of course, chocolate eggs! Here’s my list of the most impressive Easter eggs around at the moment for your viewing and eating. Read on for some Easter gift inspiration:

  1. Betty’s

It seems that chocoholics ought to head over to Yorkshire’s very own Betty’s for this year’s undoubted showstopper. Popular as a chain of tearooms famous for their quaint afternoon teas, the sweet treat connoisseurs over at Betty’s have created these beautiful Easter egg designs, adorned with eloquent icing details. There are a variety of designs on offer, my favourite being the Trio of Spring Flower Eggs which just looks so delicate and cute. I know what I’ll be treating myself to once I get back to Yorkshire for the Easter break…

  1. Thorntons

An old favourite! These personalised eggs make great gifts and are guaranteed to make anyone smile. Weighing in at a whopping 650g, Thornton’s are stocking a Marvellously Magnificent Egg this year, a gigantic take on the classic eggs ideal for sharing as a family.

  1. Cocoapod

Available on notonthehighstreet.com, Cocoapod, a family business run by Kent-based sisters Linda and Phillipa create fun personalised chocolate gifts for special occasions. I particularly love their Easter Eggs Decoration Kit, perfect for getting creative with younger family members, or secretly indulging your inner Picasso when you think no one’s watching. The kit comes with four milk chocolate flat eggs alongside a generous bag of mixed sweets for decoration. There’s a fab selection of chocolaty gifts on their site, so be sure to check it out!

  1. Hotel Chocolat

A personal weakness, Hotel Chocolat is always the place to go for your fix of chocolatey goodness. There are a range of Easter hampers, chocolate slabs and goody bags this year, but the product that stands out is most definitely their Extra Thick Egg- Rocky Road to Caramel. Filled with a selection of artisan chocolates, including classics such as Salted Caramel Cream and Treacle Tart, this egg boasts a thicker shell than the average egg, studded with cookies and puffed rice. Need I say more?

  1. Green & Black’s

Green & Black’s have a fantastic range of Easter eggs in a variety of flavours, including Butterscotch and Mint. Affordable yet rich and delicious, these eggs are accompanied with two luxury bars of chocolate and can be selected as part of a gift box-ideal for treating someone special!

  1. Choccywoccydoodah

Just in case any readers happen to win the lottery in the near future, check out the world’s most expensive Easter egg.  Handcrafted and costing around £25,000 each, these eggs pay homage to the bejewelled 19th century designs, often gifted by the Russian Tsars to loved ones. These designs are undoubtedly stunning, but let’s be real-this egg isn’t even edible, so who’s the real winner here?
