11 Reasons To Be Excited For The Gilmore Girls Revival!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Durham chapter.

I guess there has been a Gilmore Girls shaped hole for most of my life as I only recently discovered the TV showwhich focuses on the lives of the loveable mother-daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. I started watching the series in July, after all the seasons were put on Netflix to refreshen the memories of fans before the release of the new episodes. Yes that’s right, there are going to be new episodes of Gilmore Girls, which are to be released on the 25th November! I am so excited, so I thought I’d make an article about the many, many reasons to be happy about the return of the Gilmores!

It gives you an excuse to eat like a Gilmore! (which is a lot BTW)

Why not hold a Gilmore Girls party on November 25th complete with pizza, pop tarts and any other unhealthy option that Lorelai and Rory would approve of?

The Gilmore Girls themselves (duh!)

There are many femininist undertones in Gilmore Girls – remember that conversation with Dean about The Donna Reed Show? Also, let’s not forget that Lorelai is an incredibly inspirational and independent single mother who gave birth to Rory at the age of 16, and raised Rory whilst still being a child herself. Yes, boyfriends come and go for both of the Gilmore Girls, but it is always their mother-daughter relationship, and their personal goals and dreams, which are at centre stage.

It means the return of so many fab characters on our screens, starting with Emily Gilmore…

Although she may sometimes seem cold, Emily Gilmore is another fabulous character. She stands up for her family, and l think we can all appreciate that awesome and sassy scene where she stands up for Rory after Mrs Huntzberger insulted her, and criticised her relationship with Logan. One of the best moments is when Emily has a breakdown and we see her lounging on her sofa in a bathrobe with a cocktail in her hand!

Paris Geller

Paris, for me, is one of the best characters in Gilmore Girls. She may not be a Gilmore, but she is a major character throughout the seven seasons. One of the best part of Gilmore Girls is the development of the friendship between Rory and Paris, and shows how female friendships are complicated – they’re not all sunshine and roses.

And, of course the return of Stars Hollow…

And its quirky events…

How much fun do all the Stars Hollow festivals and traditions look ?! One of my favourite episodes of the series, is “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?” when Stars Hollow hosts a 24-hour dance marathon. A whole lot of drama goes down, including the break-up of Rory and Dean which means that finally Rory can be with Jess! I’m looking forward to more quirky Stars Hollow festivities in the new episodes!

And its even quirkier characters!

Kirk has to be one of the quirkiest characters on television, and it will be exciting to see his return in the revival! I’m also intrigued to find out how he received an invite to the infamous Friday Night Dinner chez Emily Gilmore. And then of course, there’s the loveable duo of gossips that are Miss Patty and Babette!

Amazing Life Quotes and Advice

Whenever I’m in a difficult situation I think to myself, what would Lorelai or Rory do in this situation? There are so many relatable quotes in Gilmore Girls that have become mottos to fans such as “Oy with the poodles already!” and “If you’re gonna throw your life away, he’d better have a motorcycle!”

Pop Culture References

Gilmore Girls is the champion of pop culture references, and the revival should be no different with the trailer already showing Lorelai asking Rory if she thinks she would be friends with Amy Schumer. Rory doesn’t have faith in this future friendship as Schumer has been photographed doing water sports, and as every Gilmore Girl fan knows, the Gilmores hate sports! It will be interesting to see how Gilmore Girls will change in response to technological advances, as it was originally on air between 2000 and 2007 when people were still using pagers!

“Be Careful, We Talk Fast”

As Lorelai warns in a promotional video for the new episodes, the Gilmore Girls do indeed speak incredibly fast and with lots of wit! I can’t wait to hear more of this during their new adventures.

Lorelai and Luke = Relationship Goals

Lorelai and Luke are my favourite couple throughout the series, and at the end of the seventh season we finally see them together, after a rollercoaster of will-they, won’t-they throughout the entire series. The actor who plays Luke, Scott Patterson, has claimed the best Lorelai and Luke scenes are to come in the new episodes. Hands up, who’s very excited about this!
