If you weren’t too busy sleeping off a Friday night at Shooters, I hope you were able to get to the Coffeehouse on Saturday, October 1st, to check out the WXDU vinyl record fair! Vinyl records are my current obsession, for a few different reasons.

First: there is something incredibly awesome about picking up a record of Beatles classics for $1. That is just. so. cheap.

Second: if you actually own a record player (and, unlike me, are not just buying bucketloads of vinyl records to own bucketloads of vinyl records), there is nothing quite like listening to music from a record. The sound is exceptionally clear, and you can totally have a hipster dance party in your dorm room. All you need is a record player (which you can find on eBay for twelve bucks) and some vinyl records (which, if you hit up the record fair or a thrift store, are as inexpensive as a dollar).

Third (and in my opinion, most importantly): records are a fun, bright, and unique way to decorate your dorm room! You can go to any record store and buy a vinyl record of your favorite band’s best album. In midst of other dorm rooms with boring, jail-cell walls, you can invest just a few dollars to spruce up your living space.

So, in short, whether or not you actually made it to the record fair, go record crazy!
I guarantee – you won’t regret it. And if you do… I’ll gladly take your vinyl records. And I’ll have myself a hipster dance party anyways.

Victoria Scott is a junior and English major at Duke University. On campus, she is an Editor and Photo-blogger for Her Campus, Managing Editor for The Chanticleer (the university yearbook), photographer and Copy Editor for DMIX Magazine, and a Resident Assistant. In her spare time, she enjoys baking cupcakes and playing tennis.
Sabrina is a Junior at Duke University, and is double majoring in English and Public Policy. A born and bred South African, Sabrina has traveled to the USA to pursue her higher education. As well as being a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Sabrina is also Assistant Vice President for Recruitment for the Panhellenic Association at Duke. Sabrina has written for Duke's daily newspaper, The Chronicle and Duke's fashion magazine, FORM. After graduating, she hopes to attend law school preferably in her favourite city, New York. In her spare time, Sabrina vegges out to various fashion blogs, mindless TV (Pretty Little Liars anyone?) and online shopping (which borders on an addiction). If you manage to catch her in an energetic mood, she's probably on her way to cardiodance (or to the nearest mall).
