Summer Jobs You Might Actually Enjoy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

It’s almost summer break. With the excitement of three months without tests or projects, comes the fear of finding and keeping a summer job. Some will be fortunate enough to be working at their dream internship in New York, L.A., or D.C. Unfortunately, for the majority of people, the quest continues and interviews and applications, for that not so glamorous job, never seem to end. Shouldn’t summer be about relaxing and doing something you enjoy? But, nowadays it’s so difficult to find a job or internship like that!

Duke students are competitive, driven, engaged, and hard working. But, sometimes we forget about the small things that make us happy. For me, if I get at least 8 hours of sleep, I’ll wake up with a big grin. A good night’s sleep is rare because let’s face it, who really has the time to sleep? I know I wish I did. Or every time you walk into Von der Hayden, don’t you wish you could buy a piece of that delicious looking chocolate cake, but decide not to because it’s only just before midnight, which means it’s too early to start rewarding yourself. And, how often are we guilty of procrastinating online by looking at cute baby animal photos that we never seem to get tired of? The answer to that question is, A LOT.

But don’t worry because I have a few ways to solve all of these problems and leave you smiling all summer long. I was happy when I came across an article titled “8 Easiest Jobs on the Planet”. With summer coming up, I thought that sounded great! It’s hard work being a Duke student, especially when everyone seems to be competing for the same job. So, I thought that these relaxing, easy, and enjoyable jobs could really put the much-needed smiles back on a lot of faces!
