Panhel Recruitment Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

The first weeks back have meant one thing to many girls: recruitment.  And of course, with recruitment comes the question, “What do I wear?” Armed with vague guidelines, girls set out to look their best for the Sisterhood Round on Friday.  How do you think they did?

Classic neutrals were a popular choice among PNMs (potential new members), but with a twist.  Whether it’s a sparkly necklace, unexpected fabric, pop of color, or chic mix of patterns, girls found a way to make their blacks, whites, and army greens stand out.  My personal favorite? Navy!  A great navy works as a neutral, but is unexpected and a little less harsh on porcelain-skinned girls like Claudia Dantoin, who shows off her classic dress.

Tierney Maray adds a pop of color to her LBD with a colorful cardigan and bright lipstick.  Lipstick is the ultimate accessory, and in a process where you want to stand out, a bright signature shade can work to your advantage—just make sure to keep the rest of your make up neutral!

Another great trend was saturated jewel tones.  They definitely help girls to stand out in a sea of neutrals!  Colors I love are cobalt (pretty close to Duke Blue!), purple, fuchsia, and orange.  Shelby Wailes shows off her best cobalt lace A-line dress.  The lace keeps it girly and sweet, while the black tights and belt add some edge.

Kristen Larson shows off the perfect mix of two jewel tones.  Her simple jewelry, heels, and make up allow the dress to stand out without being overwhelming, and really gives the impression of a fun personality.
