How to Stay Warm and Still Look Cute on a Night Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

We all love a good snow day, and since we have been lucky enough to get our fair share of them this month, it is about time we learned how to deal with them.  When school gets cancelled, everyone wants to be able to go out on the town with friends to celebrate, and we can’t let the weather stand in the way of that.  But when all the cab companies are low on staff and in high demand, what do we do?  We rally.  If Kim Cates can do it with Shooters when the rest of the city is shutting down then we can tough out a walk in the cold or wait in line outside.   Here are some suggestions of how to stay warm on your next trip to Shooters or Devines—no vodka jacket needed.

Trade your heels for boots

We all love a good pair of heels, but who are we kidding.  Our favorite pair of wedges are just not the right shoes to go trekking through slush puddles in and they certainly don’t make it easier to jump over them.  One wrong step into a mud puddle and those beloved heels will be ruined.  Not to mention your feet will be freezing after just a few steps.  Opt for a cute pair of riding boots or army boots over a pair of cute, warm socks.  Much more practical and still chic.

Invest in a trendy jacket

It may be cold outside, but it certainly won’t be inside of Shooters, so here is the perfect solution that lets you wear your favorite sleeveless top without carting around a North Face.  Your outerwear can make a statement too, so choose a leather or military jacket that will keep you warm and make your outfit look even better.  I can’t stop wearing mine!  Once you get inside, you can keep it on or just drape it over your arm since they are easy to fold up.  If you can find a safe hiding place to stash it, more power to ya.

Tights, tights, tights

Just because it is cold does not mean you have to wear pants.  Go for the dress or skirt you want to wear, just grab a pair of tights to go underneath.  If you want to make even more of a statement, try a patterned pair.
