It’s finally spring, which means that both pollen and love are in the air.  It’s warming up and you can now start pulling out your beach towel on Friday afternoons to tan and scope out a boy for your upcoming formal. If you find someone you’re interested in, don’t sit around and wait for him to talk to you! Be bold and make the first move. Now that it’s so glorious out, there are tons of fun things to do both on and off campus that will be a nice alternative to dinner at the loop.

1.     Go picnic in the gardens. Pick up some drinks, grab a blanket and bring your boy to soak up some son amongst the flowers. It’s a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon talking, playing Frisbee, people watching, or all three.

2.     If you’re a big eater and earlier riser like me, the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is a great option for bonding with a laid back boy. You can walk around and snack on organic food for really good prices. This is a really low-key environment and a really easy way to spend an entire morning. Plus, everyone knows the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!

3.     Walk around Main Street in the evening. From Dame’s Chicken and Waffles to Dos Perros, there are plenty of good places to eat and some cool shops and art museums in between. Duke students don’t spend enough time exploring Durham, so break the mold. If you’re not into walking and don’t have a car, you can always hop on the Bull City connector.

These are only a few ideas, but there really are tons of options! Use these or do some research online to come up your own fun, original date. Let your personality show and you’ll be sure to win your boy over. Good luck!

Sabrina is a Junior at Duke University, and is double majoring in English and Public Policy. A born and bred South African, Sabrina has traveled to the USA to pursue her higher education. As well as being a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Sabrina is also Assistant Vice President for Recruitment for the Panhellenic Association at Duke. Sabrina has written for Duke's daily newspaper, The Chronicle and Duke's fashion magazine, FORM. After graduating, she hopes to attend law school preferably in her favourite city, New York. In her spare time, Sabrina vegges out to various fashion blogs, mindless TV (Pretty Little Liars anyone?) and online shopping (which borders on an addiction). If you manage to catch her in an energetic mood, she's probably on her way to cardiodance (or to the nearest mall).
