With a new semester come new opportunities to make smashing first impressions. So naturally, you want to set your best foot – or frame – forward. I’m talking about glasses frames here. When picking a new pair glasses, the choices can be overwhelming. Narrow your options and find the perfect pair for your peepers with this factor: the shape of your own face! Certain styles suit some face shapes better than others. Those round lenses might be doing your overall appearance more harm than good! Here’s a rundown of the most flattering glasses for common face types.

Circle/Oval – If your face is round, your cheeks are probably a prominent feature. For a circular face, try square frames to balance the fullness of your cheeks. Oval faces are the most flexible and complemented by many frame types, so you may also look into square/rectangular frames.

Diamond – If you have a diamond shaped face, you probably have beautiful, contoured cheekbones! Highlight these by choosing glasses with detailing towards the top corners, like cat-eye frames. Rimless glasses will also draw attention to the natural arch of your cheeks.

Square/Rectangular – If your face most closely resembles a square or a rectangle, you have distinct, angular features. Your best bet is to choose glasses that have a round shape. The lack of hard edges will appear to soften the lines of your facial structure!

Triangle – If your face is shaped like a triangle, you’ll want to look for glasses that balance the narrowness of your forehead. Frames that draw the eye upward include those with only a top rim or ones with temples at the top.

Heart – If your face is shaped like this romantic symbol, look for glasses that counter a broad forehead and small chin such as ones without rims or with low temples.

Looking your best can give you the confidence to do your best. We consider so many factors of our outward appearance, from clothes to hair to makeup – but it can be easy to forget something that you may put on just for class or wear to see short distances. Glasses can be costly, and if you’re planning on buying a new pair anyway, it’s great to know you’ve chosen the right pair for you. So keep your eyes peeled, collegiettesTM, and you’ll do the most to flatter them!
