Brunch: The Best Meal of the Day

For those of us no longer able to use that precious Marketplace swipe into the glory that is brunch, we need to start looking for new solutions. Here are a few places to spend your buck (or points) to guarantee you won’t do anything productive until after noon. I mean it is a weekend…

The Washington Duke: Saturday & Sunday 10:30-2, on campus
Expect a wonderful sit down meal with an older crowd.  The brunch menu allows you to choose an entrée and a starter and desert are included. The desert bar is alone enough to die for: raspberry cheesecake, chocolate covered strawberries, peach crisp, and a rich chocolate mousse—need I go on? The portions and just shear number of courses are a lot to deal with so brunch might end up being the only meal you can fit for the day. Plan accordingly (cue Mad Men episodes, pretend that you will study, etc.)

The Nasher Café: Saturday 11-4:30, Sunday 12-4:30, on campus
A great way to check a quicker brunch and still on points! Food is always delicious, and the outside seating is perfect for sunny southern days. Inside is a little over air-conditioned so be sure to bring a jacket. While leaning towards the lunch side, my favorite of the brunch menu is the Sweet and Salty Panini. Though eyeing the new menu, I’m noticing an “Orange-Infused French Toast Casserole” that already has me looking forward to Sunday.

Guglhupf : Saturday 8-4:30, Sunday 9-3, off campus
This restaurant by night and café by day has one of the best environments of our options. The body is open and bright. Oh, and the food is delicious. Their Eggs Benedict is really the best thing to ever happen. This is a great date place to come with the girlfriends or someone special. But the environment is very perfect for posting up with some work, good food, and coffee. They have great eggs and sandwiches, you really can’t go wrong here.

So after a long week of midterms you might want to treat yourself to a nice brunch with friends! …Or the more likely situation, roll out of bed unshowered, grab a pair of oversized sunglasses, and have a delicious brunch. Enjoy!
