If you haven’t seen the 2012 Breaking Out gallery, go to the Women’s Center right now for the visual tribute to survivors of sexual assault. Develle Dish – Duke’s feminist blog – presents the collection of photographs, which were taken by Kristin Oakley. The gallery serves as a reminder that sexual assault affects our friends and peers, not just strangers. Breaking Out is a reflection of the victims’ courage to speak up, “the strongest act of defiance” for an act that “thrives on the silence of its victims or bystanders” (Gallery Opening Event Description).
