Top 10 Places to Visit if You Are a Fan of Mamma Mia! by Segren Rollin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

During quarantine, Mamma Mia! blew up on my social media accounts. The joke on social media is that we should all dropout of college, move to Greece, and start our own Donna inspired life. While I don’t suggest we all drop out, it doesn’t hurt to dream about all of the Mamma Mia! inspired locations we can visit post-COVID.

Skopelos, Greece

This little Island in Greece is our number one destination, as it is the original filming location of the first Mamma Mia! movie. Locals of the island said that although they are glad their home hasn’t turned into a tourist shop, they encourage fans to come and visit their beautiful home.

Island of Vis, Croatia

In second place is the Island of Vis in beautiful Croatia––the filming location for Mamma Mia 2!. You are likely freaking out because both movies were not shot in the same location (I am too) but this Island is just as gorgeous as the last. Think: those tacky resort commercials complete with beach cabanas and hot tubs.

Jerusalem, Israel

Jerusalem may not be the first place to come to mind in this context. While it does not contain the same Greek charm, the architecture here will surely remind you of the Mamma Mia! village. Much of the city was formed thousands of years ago and still stands today, providing you not only with beauty, but also a deep history.

Saint-Barthélemy, Caribbean

While asking around for tips to create this list, my friend Rose suggested Saint Barth island. I had never heard of the island, but after researching more I can see why she recommended it. This island is absolutely gorgeous: white sand beaches and bottomless mimosas for days. Fantastic, right?

Formentera, Spain

This is a beach destination, a bit different than the stone sidewalks we see in the film. It makes our list today because of its gorgeous architecture and low tourist rate. Formentera is in a more isolated part of Spain, meaning less crowded photo opportunities for you. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway or a break from your study abroad adventure!

Cala Llenya, Ibiza

This cute little island is reminiscent of that rustic feel from our favorite island in Greece. It is quite small––actually the smallest island on this list––yet it has this incredible energy. The ocean here can get a bit rough, as the name translates to “choppy water.” As long as you stay safe and aware while at the beach you are destined to have an amazing time.

Isla Mujeres, Mexico

This destination is my favorite on the list. Located only 15 minutes away by ferry from Cancun, Isla Mujeres is one of the most beautiful and exciting islands. The name translates to “women of the island.” The women of this island hold all levels of power and are the most respected. We know Donna would love it here!

Isla Socorro, Mexico

Yes, another island in Mexico, because I genuinely think Mexico may be one of the most gorgeous places on Earth. This island is known for its amazing rock formations, easy sailing waters, and warm sun. It is also lightly traveled, so travel rates are low. Get out there and dance on a sailboat with your best friends or significant other…you know you want too!

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

I am sure many of you have heard of these incredible islands. These are the with the pretty hotels that stand in the ocean waters. Bora Bora may not give you the same quaint town village vibe as others on this list, but it will give you all the romance and sights we see in the movies!

Dalmatia, Croatia

These sets of islands in my opinion have the most culture. In Mamma Mia! the culture of their little Greek island is very prominent, and after some research I learned that people view these islands in the same way.

Go ahead, start planning your Mamma Mia! inspired post-COVID beach vacation.
