Meet The Editor Miss Keely Tefft

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

Meet our editor, Keely Tefft!

All the way from Strasburg, Virginia, Keely is a second year here at DU majoring in Psychology and Biology with a concentration in Cognitive Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry, on a pre-med track. She says that she was inspired to go into pre-med during her senior year of high school when she worked closely with the school’s athletic trainer and with athletes. She loved being around the sports world, but her heart also strives to help others and she so she decided the medical world would be a good way to fulfil both! Keely says she is debating whether to specialize in neurology or in orthopedics (that deals with bones for those of us who avoid doctors like a plague).

As for editing, Keely simply does it on the side for our Her Campus team! Who can blame her? She’s so busy! Not only is she a double major, Keely is also a Delta Zeta and has a job at the Richie Center. In Delta Zeta, Keely is the Alumnae and Colonnade Relations Chair Woman. Keely says she loves being in a sorority and tries to be involved in as many events as possible. On the weekend Keely helps host birthday parties at the Richie Center here on campus. She says she loves her job because birthdays are so special to her and she loves getting to be part of making someone’s day extra special.

Keely says she loves being the Her Campus DU editor because she gets to read all of the articles before they are published. When asked what her number one writing pet peeve was, she replied with an explanation of the Oxford comma (see below). She wishes to share this little info with everyone in hopes to cure the world of mal-commas. Aside from grammar, Keely’s best advice for being a good writer is to “sit down and speak out loud what you want to write. It will be so much more natural than if you just silently think about what you’re writing”.

When Keely isn’t busy, which is rarely ever, she enjoys binge watching NCIS on Netflix and jamming out to Shake It Off by Taylor Swift.
