Halloween Recovery: 5 Spooktacular Skincare Favorites

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

It’s been a week of themed looks sandwiched between two Halloweekends. You stand in front of your mirror and scrub-a-dub-dub your face until it’s red and raw. You look up… BOO! Dry skin, your face is breaking out, and there’s a mysterious black streak across your forehead! What to do? It’s time to go into recovery mode.

Here are five skincare favorites from this spooky season that will get your face back to its supple and strong state.

Mary Kay Oil-Free Makeup Remover

You drag yourself home from a long night of costumery and flop yourself on your bed. You’re about to snuggle into the warm inviting embrace of your blankets when… a harrowing thought! What about all that makeup on your face? A breakout waiting to happen. This is where Mary Kay comes in. With a little splash on a cotton pad, bam, all that mascara and foundation are gone, your skin can breathe, and you no longer look like Yzma.

Available on Amazon, or through your local Mary Kay spokesperson.

Acure Brilliantly Brightening Glowing Serum

You’ve washed your face; today’s a no-makeup day you decide. Do you need a little glow, sunshine? Try Acure’s Brilliantly Brightening Glowing Serum. An argan oil base packed with pumpkin and cranberry, it’s the perfect fall favorite moisturizer that adds a bit of a glow that compliments the Denver “Golden Hour”. This bad boy comes in a nice sturdy glass pump bottle and is certified non-GMO and organic.

I got mine on Amazon, but it is also available at Target. Packaging may vary.

Naturally G4U Glow Girl High-C Brightening Serum

This year, we really got into serums. Plant-based vegan, this serum is a good first foray into a high vitamin-C serum. It contains a higher concentration of vitamin-C (20%) and a bit of lemon peel ferment (4%) as well, the acidity of which helps to reduce discoloration and brighten skin tone. Use both the Acure and Glow Girl serums together for a blend of moisture and glow that lasts throughout the day.

I found mine at Ulta

 Honest Beauty Magic Beauty Balm

At the Her Conference Inspire in LA earlier this year, we had the pleasure of hearing Jessica Alba, founder of the Honest company, talk about her passion for ethical consumerism and honest skincare products and trends. It was truly inspiring and, since then, I’ve been using the Magic Beauty Balm. Let me just say, it is the smoothest lip balm and it makes my lips look good. Just a little swipe goes a long way, and my lips chap less easily during the dry Denver day. Overall big recommend.

You can find it here

Trader Joe’s SPA 100% Pure Jojoba Oil

This one is an all-time favorite. A simple carrier oil, jojoba oil is useful to remove makeup, moisturize skin and hair, and cleanse clogged pores by reducing sebum production in the skin. A fun thing I like to do with my bottle of jojoba is to drop a blend of essential oils into the fresh bottle so that the carrier properties of the oil diffuse them out, and I can then use the oil to take off the last of my makeup, as a light night moisturizer, or a de-frizz serum for wet hair. I tossed a couple sprigs of fresh rosemary into the bottle this summer, and it’s been nourishing my hair, all while smelling like a provincial countryside.

Trader Joe’s carries a 4 oz. bottle of unrefined jojoba oil, or you can get it on Amazon.
