The Best and Worst of Oscars Fashion

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

It happens every year, and each year there’s more and more hype about the Academy Awards, for the awards, but almost moreso for the fashion! This year’s Oscars was no execption, and we’ve cultivated Her Campus DU’s very own list of our top favorite fashion looks of the evening, as well as some sytles that weren’t quite there. (Que Heidi Klum.)

Jennifer Lawrence decked out in a Dior Haute Couture dress and Chopard Jewels radiated elegance with an updated victorian vibe.

Rooney Mara’s Givenchy Dress accompanied with her baby nubbin was daring, yet still in line with the actress’s somewhat gothic style…

Kate Windslet’s Ralph Lauren Gown and Nirav Modi jewels have gotten mixed reviews by the HC staff – mainly bad ones though. Her dominatrix/latex number exudes a certain level of “I’m-done-with-Leo-not-winning!” Although does she ever age? No. She is flawless.

Windslet could have gone for a more flamboyant look. A more frilly number. For instance, everyone’s favorite “WHY IS SHE HERE?” attendee: Heidi Klum. In the words of Miranda Preistly: “Florals for spring. Groundbreaking.”

Emily Blunt saved us in a pink Prada Dress and one of the cutest accessories around: a baby bump!!! Adorbs.

Charlize Theron’s Dior Haute Couture gown and $3.7 million dollars worth of Harry Winston jewelry was dazzling, yet not enough to take home that Oscar for Mad Max.

Saoirse Ronan’s Calvin Klein emerald mermaid gown was the thing of ~dreams~. So was her delightful performance in Brooklyn. She is delightful. We should be friends.

Margot Robbie in Tom Ford with a The Row purse looked like a sexy 70’s snake from Austin Power’s Studio 69.  Lovvvveee iitttttt.

Brie Larson’s Gucci Dress was obviously fantastic since she took home the award for Best Actress for Room. However! While the color was classic, and the make-up appropriatley simple, I just don’t know about the frilly bits with that belt. It looks like fake grapes in a Thanksgiving bouquet.

Kate Blanchett’s Armani Prive dress was gorgeous. I mean, Kate can get away with anything – but it looked like she went a bit wild at Michael’s with the hot glue gun? No? Just me?

Alicia Vikander looked like a blossoming sunflower in her custom Louis Vuitton dress, heels and jewelry.

And don’t get me started on Olivia Wilde’s Haute Couture Valentino’s dress. *Faints with happiness*.

Rachel McAdams can really do no wrong in this August Getty Atelier gown. So sophisticated and so chic.

Noted English actress Charlotte Rampling was a stunner in her Armani Prive silver sheith, with very sensible flats. She’s got the right idea.

Olivia Munn was also having a blast, looking pretty chic as the beautiful, tall glass of orange juice that she is.

And lest we forget the man of the evening: Leo, we would have saved you a spot on the raft. But we think this is the least of your worries, now.

Honorable mentions? Eddie Radmayne you suave S.o.B.

Best dressed couple? Best Supporting Actor nominee Tom Hardy and wife Charlotte. Awwwwwww.

And GaGa was there! How could I forget? Oh yeah, maybe because she didn’t win best song and then we all went into denial.

Overall? A pretty fashionable night! Who were your best and worst dressed?
