What to Wear: Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

February 14 is almost here and everyone is super excited. No valentine? No problem! You can still celebrate the weekend. These outfits are 100% GALentine’s Day approved. Whether you’re having a grand celebration or a quiet night, you should look great. Show off your Valentine’s Day spirit by wearing subtle hues of red and pink instead of over doing the heart graphics. Each look is feminine and flirty enough without going too overboard.

OUTFIT #1: CASUAL

1.Fluffy roll-neck sweater dress in candy $59.42 CHICWISH.COM

2.Miss Boho felt hat $24.14 SWELL.COM

3.Chunky Heels buckled ankle boot $50.31 YESSTYLE.COM

4.Quad pyramid cuff $35 JEWLIQ.COM

5.Shoulder bag $29.95 HM.COM

6.2 Stripe over the knee tights $18.95 ASOS.COM

If your celebration is more on the small end of the spectrum but you still want to look good, this look is for you. This outfit is great for grabbing a quick lunch or pizza and a movie. A knit sweater dress allows you to stay feminine and warm. Also, a sweater dress pairs perfectly with ankle boots. Patterned tights are the perfect accent and they add another feminine touch. This specific pair gives the illusion of over the knee socks, but offer a bit more warmth. You can keep your accessories simple; a gold bangle is enough. You can maybe add a few rings as well. Grab a purse to hold your essentials and to offer a bit more flare. You can hide your messy, tousled hair under a nice wool floppy hat. Complementing the shoes, burgundy lips finishes off the look. For the rest of the makeup you can totally do a “no makeup” makeup look.

OUTFIT #2: SEMI CASUAL

1.Pink lightweight half lace back duster coat $135 RIVERISLAND.COM

2.Premiere pointed high heels $72.01 ASOS.COM

3.Moto Salt and Pepper Leigh jeans $70 TOPSHOP.COM

8.Butter London tinted balm in tramp stamp $20 BEAUTY.COM

If your plans fall in the middle of the spectrum, then this is your look! Jeans and your favorite white V-neck offer the ultimate comfort. A little rip on the knees of your jeans gives the edge this outfit needs to save the look from being slightly overdone for your plans. A duster is light enough that you can wear it all night or without getting too hot. The heels are completely optional. You can wear them for an extra boost or switch them out for a pair of point-toe flats. A small cross body is preferred over a bigger, more overbearing purse. Since much of this look is pretty simple, add a statement necklace like the one pictured. Stud earrings of any kind will do. If you haven’t mastered the sock bun yet, get some practice so you can rock it with this look. It doesn’t have to be completely polished. The makeup can be neutral; maybe your go-to look for everyday. On your lips try a nude in the shade of Kylie Jenner’s now-infamous pout.

Date night in the city? If the occasion calls for you to get dressed up but you have no idea what to wear, here’s a suggestion: try a clean and simple minimalistic ensemble. A blush tone dress is perfect and not too tacky compared to a dress covered in arrow pierced hearts. Outerwear in a complementing color pulls it together. Pull out your strappy heels to accentuate your amazing legs.  A little animal print adds a bit of pattern and sexiness to the rather crisp ensemble. Slip on some dainty jewelry with a pearl here and there. Try some loose waves in your hair for a nice effect. Now, it’s time for your makeup. Keeping with the minimal theme, warm makeup is best. However, try a sultrier take on neutral makeup. Smoky up your eyes a bit and add contour with a natural-looking bronzer. Sweep on a little blush and dust on a highlight. Put on your favorite nude lip-gloss and you’re all done.

Whatever your plans may be for this Valentine’s/GALentine’s Day weekend, make sure you dress appropriately for occasion. Basically, make sure you look good!  It doesn’t matter if you’re going out or staying in. Switch up the looks to make them your own. Feel free to add or subtract until a look is perfect for you.
