What to Drink When You’re on a Diet

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

It’s so hard to eliminate the caramel Frappuccino that you stop for on your way to lecture and the Sprite that you like to enjoy with your lunch, but did you know that those beverages are packed with unhealthy chemicals and massive amounts of sugar? As a favor to your body, start drinking these five detoxifying alternatives that are natural as well as mouthwateringly delicious!

1. Tea (green, mint, black, white)

This flavorful hot drink is perfect with any meal and provides many health benefits as well. Green tea helps to detoxify your body and contains antioxidants called catechins that prevent cell damage. White tea possesses anti-aging properties, improves oral health, and assists those with diabetes in dealing with excessive thirst and decreasing glucose levels. Lower risk of stroke and immune system boosts are advantages of sipping on black tea. And mint tea has the ability to wake you up in the morning and relieve discomfort from bloating.

2. Water

Water is the magic beverage that keeps your skin clear, hydrates your body, and keeps you full throughout the day. It can energize your muscles and cleanse your kidneys as well. What is great about H2O is that it is especially delicious when paired with fruit! To switch it up, try citrus-infused water or put berries in your glass!

3. Green smoothie

Trendy as well as healthy, green smoothies are an amazing way to incorporate your daily dose of fruits and vegetables. They’re also easy to make! Green smoothies provide a rich source of minerals and will even have you craving healthier foods while on a diet! Follow this easy recipe to get your fix!

4. Orange juice

Your mother has always advised you to drink orange juice to reap the benefits of its vitamin C (especially when you’re plagued with a cold or sore throat!). This popular breakfast drink is perfect when you need vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. Orange juice helps to reduce inflammation and balance your blood pressure, but make sure that you consume a brand that does not include heaps of added sugar!

5. Soy milk

If you don’t like milk that comes from animals, plant-based options, such as soy milk, are a great alternative. Soy milk is lower in sugar, strengthens your blood vessels, and improves your blood lipid profile. It’s also naturally sweet, so some people prefer the taste of this type of milk over regular cow’s milk.

These yummy refreshments are super beneficial to the temple that is your body, so the next time you head to the grocery store, pick up a few and stash them in your dorm room. They are easy to prepare, cheap, and will do wonders for your body – on the inside and out!
