With a plethora of classes and extracurricular activities in full swing, life can sometimes get stressful and overwhelming. A nice bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail is the perfect getaway when you’re feeling the need to blow off steam.

If you don’t have a bike, that’s not a problem! This past April, Philadelphia has joined the ranks of bike share programs in other cities with its very own Indego bike sharing program.

The concept of this program is simple. You can check out a bicycle from one of the many kiosks located around the city, ride around, and then return it to any empty Indego dock when you are finished.

There are three plans available. For $4 per 30 minutes, the walk up plan lets you check out a bike with a credit card. This is clearly the best plan for tourists and visitors. The flex plan, at a $10 annual fee, gets you a key fob for easier access and extends your $4 per 30 minutes to an hour long ride. The Indego30 plan is $15 for 30 days, but it includes an unlimited number of one-hour rides—an ideal plan for local riders.

The bikes are cruiser models, with baskets and reasonably comfortable seats. It is definitely more of a leisure model than a racing model, but it works well for getting around the city or going on a nature ride with your SO.

Personally, I really like this bike sharing program. It gives you the opportunity to ride a bike without the responsibility of maintaining one. No need to invest in your own set of wheels or a bike lock, and you don’t have to worry about repairing rust after leaving it out in the rain! Once you finish your ride, you can just return it to the dock without a care in the world.

Indego is ideal for quick rides, such as going to Trader Joe’s or biking along the river for an hour. When you’re not wearing the most comfortable shoes to trek to CVS, hop on an Indego bike for a relaxing ride! So, what are you waiting for? Grab your helmet and ride Indego!
