It is once again that time of year. Store shelves are overloaded with the color red. Roses appear to be blooming everywhere you go. Teddy bears and chocolates have become inseparable. Yes, it is almost Valentine’s day. Usually this is a time to profess our love for others, share our feelings about them or simply remind those dear to us of their importance in our lives. However, this year, your valentine should be yourself! Here’s 5 self love tips to help you get through Valentine’s day and the rest of 2018!

1. Appreciate Yourself

It is so easy to always go straight into the negatives about ourselves. We can pinpoint our flaws in mere seconds, ready to attack ourselves with harsh criticism. But when is the last time you stepped back and took a look at all that you have accomplished? When is the last time you patted yourself on the back for getting through the last obstacle that was in your way? When is the last time you valued your skill set and everything that you have to offer to the world? Now is the time. Congratulate yourself for being so good at being you!

2. Forgive Yourself

We all make mistakes. That is just another inevitable part of life. Through honest and thoughtful reflection, come to terms with what has happened. Learn from your mistakes and allow yourself to grow as a person through that. Forgiving yourself is the first step.

3. Follow Your Passions

Make time for the things you love! Read that book you’ve been meaning to, pull out your old sketchbook and draw something, or learn how to cook a new recipe! Maybe even find a new passion altogether! Think outside the box, be adventurous and have fun!

4. Take Time Off

Yes, “the grind” is real, especially during midterm and finals week. However, breaks are equally as important! In between studying, give yourself five or ten minutes off. Clear your brain before you try to pack more knowledge in there. Breaks will help make sure you don’t stretch yourself too thin.

5. Love Yourself

You are strong! You are fierce! You are hard working! You are beautiful! You are kind! You are powerful! You are important! You are valued! You are appreciated! Never forget to love yourself.
