Whether you are on co-op, doing an internship or at your part-time job, there are times when there might be a lull in your day, or maybe your boss simply never gives you that much work to do. Staring at the wall will make your day go by extremely slowly, so if you are suffering from boredom and want to keep yourself occupied, here are some ways to make the clock tick a little faster.

Read articles online about topics you’re interested in

If you have access to a computer and Internet, or you are allowed to use your phone, look up some interesting articles about topics that you enjoy learning about! This isn’t necessarily wasting your free time – you are educating yourself and obtaining more knowledge, whether you are passionate about fashion, medicine or music.

Ask your co-workers about their journeys

Chatting away with your colleagues is sometimes frowned upon, but what if you are talking about their careers with them? A great way to get “in” and show that you are interested in your job and other people, is to ask them about how they got to where they are now. Questions you can ask can include, “What was your dream job when you were my age?” and “What is the biggest lesson that you’ve learned in your career that you wish you had known before?” This is a surefire way to strengthen bonds with your co-workers.

Organize and clean your space

Chances are, whether you work in an office or an ice cream shop, there is always some organizing and cleaning to do. You want to make sure that all of your supplies are tidy and easy to find to help yourself, your co-workers and productivity. Invest in some folders, Clorox wipes and desktop organizers to bring peace of mind when chaos ensues.

Make a to-do list

Going along with organizing your space, take time to organize your life. If you don’t already have some, start two to-do lists – one for work and one for your personal life. On your work to-do list, jot down tasks that you need to complete, putting the one that needs the most priority at the top of the list. Also, make note of meetings with people, as well as memos for yourself. On your personal to-do list, write down things you need to accomplish after the work day ends. These tasks may include doing laundry, going to the gym or meal prepping.

Even though you may not be receiving many tasks at works sometimes, you can still be productive and feel great about it! Take control of your work life and complete these little things every day!
