How to Build a BTS Bullet Journal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

Getting back to the grind after a summer spent at the shore, on vacation or just relaxing poolside can seem daunting. Academics are hard enough to stay on top of, but add in all of your busy-bee clubs, sports and work commitments and you’ll be double booking yourself before you know it. Stay on top of it all this school year by creating your own bullet journal!

1. Start with the basics

All you need to make your own bullet journal can be found in your nearest school supply store, like Staples. You’ll need a blank notebook with graph paper or bullet paper inside, fine tipped pens, highlighter markers and a ruler.

2. Make a key

Remember what you have to do and why with a simple key or legend. Different shapes can indicate different obligations and different colors can make it easy to remember what activity you’ve committed to!

3. Build a daily timeline

This step will help you make sure that you don’t double (or triple) book yourself. Keeping your obligations linear will save you from going back on your word, breaking away from a commitment or missing an event you really wanted to attend.

4. Make an assignment log

Divvy it up by week or by class, and organize it with a column for due date and a column for the assignment itself. Make a “check-off” column to feel even more accomplished when you’re done!

5. Build a semester overview spread

This will help you avoid surprises during the semester and will keep your long-term assignments and exam dates in the back of your mind. Use different colors to indicate the dates of exams, university holidays and anything else that may come up.

With a bullet journal that’s personalized to your own schedule, style and goals, there’s no better way to stay on track this school year! Just be sure not to get too highlighter happy … just kidding. Highlight away!
