Black Friday is the sale event that everyone waits all year for. If you’re anything like me and you can’t walk past any store hosting a sale without being sucked in like it’s a black hole, then you understand the allure of shopping on Black Friday. However, Black Friday can be a confusing, scary time if you don’t know how to handle it, so here are some tips to make Black Friday a little easier and more successful for you this year.
1. Do your research
Many stores will advertise their Black Friday deals prior to the event. Look around online to find if there is something you’re really looking to get, such as a new laptop, and compare prices between stores. This way you’ll know which store will be having the best Black Friday deal and can make a plan of action so that you are efficient when shopping.
2. Know where you’re going to shop
Know where you are going to shop and know everything about it. Get a feel for the layout of the store so you can find what you want without hassle. It is also especially important to know what time the stores will be opening. Some stores open early on Friday morning while others open sometime on Thanksgiving. Knowing where you’re going to shop helps you plan accordingly so you can get there right when the store opens or even a few hours before to wait in line.
3. Make a list
Make a list of what you intend to buy, where it is, and for whom. Even if you’re not sure what you want to get for somebody, make sure to include their name on the list. This will keep you on track and ensure a successful shopping trip. The last thing you want is go home and realize you forgot to get your best friend a present (unless, of course, you’re preparing for Cyber Monday). Black Friday is also a good time to shop for yourself. Have you been looking for a cute, new pair of boots? Need some new closet staples? Figure out what you’re itching to buy and include it on your list.
4. Dress comfortably
If you plan on waiting outside in the lines, make sure you dress warm! Dress in comfortable walking shoes that will protect your feet if any other enthusiastic shopper stomps on them as they fight their way through the crowd. Also consider football-style shoulder pads (I’m not kidding).
5. Be careful
Black Friday can become a madhouse in certain places. Try to go with a group of friends or family members for extra protection. Not only can shoppers encounter rowdiness from a crowd, theft is also extremely easy to pull off because of the hordes of people loaded with goods and spending money. Always be aware of your surroundings (especially in more secluded areas outside of stores) and keep an eye on all of your belongings and purchases!
Black Friday is a nerve-wracking yet magical time, and when done right, it can end in satisfaction. This year, don’t go to the stores on Black Friday blindly. Make sure you have a game plan and you should make it out with an empty wallet, arms full of shopping bags, and a satisfied smile on your face.
